The origin of the name
There have always been two versions of the origin of "Huanggu"
1. Huanggu District is named after Huanggu tomb, which is the tomb of Prince Jianyi. Prince Jianyi is the eighth son of shuerhaqi, Prince Zhuang, the younger brother of Nurhachi. Because Prince Jian's real name is fingu, his tomb is also called fingu tomb. After a long time, it was misinterpreted as Huanggu tomb.
2. The name of Huanggu District comes from Nuerhachi's Gan daughter (also known as Gan Mei), who was buried in Shouquan area, so it is called Huanggu tomb. When the Beijing Fengshui railway was built in 1911, the original Huanggu tomb was renamed huanggutun. In 1938, the puppet City Office named huanggutun station as Huanggu District.
Historical evolution
During the Qing Dynasty, Huanggu area was a farmland with several villages and dozens of farmers.
In 1907, huanggutun railway station was set up on the Beijing Fengshui railway. Since then, industry, commerce and transportation industries have sprung up in this area. The number of residents has been increasing and towns have gradually formed.
In 1913, there were 9 villages under the jurisdiction of the Ninth District of Shenyang County, including Xinshi village, baohebao village, dongshahezi village, beipai village, Xin'an village, huanggutun village, tawan village, Yuhuayuan village and beishahezi village, and 10 villages under the jurisdiction of the seventh district.
In 1929, it was under the jurisdiction of the Sixth District of Shenyang City, including Shuncheng Street, Engineering Department Street, Xinglong Street, huanggutun front street, huanggutun middle street and huanggutun back street (now Yaming and Kejian).
In 1931, after the September 18th Incident, it was under the jurisdiction of the Ninth District of Shenyang County, Fengtian province. There were eight main villages, including huanggutun, tawan, beipai, Xinshi village, beishahezi, dongshahezi, Xin'an village and baohepu. There were nine main villages in the seventh district, Santaizi.
At the end of 1937, Huanggu District was under the jurisdiction of Fengtian city.
In January 1938, Huanggu District, including Huanggu and Beiling, was established.
On September 1, 1947, Shenyang was divided into 24 districts instead of 17 districts. The west of Huanggu District was divided into tawan district.
On November 20, 1948, after the liberation of Shenyang, Shenyang special municipal government ordered that Huanggu District, Beiling district and tawan district should be merged into Huanggu District, and Huanggu District government should be established. At the same time, Beiling district should be set up in Huanggu District.
In June 1949, the people's Government of Huanggu District was established.
In May 1955, it was renamed Huanggu District People's Committee.
At the beginning of the "Cultural Revolution" in 1966, Huanggu District was renamed Hongwei District.
On June 24, 1968, Shenyang Revolutionary Committee decided to restore the name of Huanggu District.
