Wangcheng District Wangcheng District, under the jurisdiction of Changsha City, Hunan Province, is located in the northeast of central Hunan, on both sides of the lower reaches of the Xiangjiang River. It is adjacent to Changsha County in the East, Kaifu District and Yuelu District in the south, Ningxiang city in the southwest, Heshan District of Yiyang City in the northwest, Xiangyin County in the north, and Miluo City along the Beijing Guangzhou railway in the northeast. The total area is 969 square kilometers. By the end of 2018, Wangcheng district had 11 streets and 5 towns, with 589 thousand registered residence population (excluding Lei Feng Street).
Wangcheng district has been included into the core area of Changsha Zhuzhou Xiangtan "two oriented society" supporting reform and Dongting Lake Ecological Economic Zone, which is the locomotive of the economic development of Hexi in Changsha. In 2011, it became the sixth urban area of Changsha.
In 2018, Wangcheng District achieved a GDP of 67.142 billion yuan (including Leifeng Street), of which the added value of the primary industry was 4.039 billion yuan, the added value of the secondary industry was 44.459 billion yuan, and the added value of the tertiary industry was 18.644 billion yuan. On January 29, 2021, it was selected into the list of areas with remarkable achievements in real work in 2020 announced by Hunan Provincial People's government.
Historical evolution
Wangcheng has been under the jurisdiction of Changsha County, Changsha state, Tanzhou and Changsha County since Qin and Han Dynasties.
In the first year of Yuanfu (1098), song zhezong divided the southern part of the territory into Shanhua. Through the Southern Song, yuan, Ming and Qing Dynasties, the territory has always belonged to Changsha and Shanhua counties.
In the first year of the Republic of China (1912), the two counties were incorporated into Changsha Prefecture, which was directly under the jurisdiction of Hunan Province. The next year, it was changed to Changsha County. On June 2, 1914, it belonged to Xiangjiang Road. In 1938, it was the first administrative supervision district in Hunan Province. It followed until the early days of the founding of the people's Republic of China.
In May 1951, with the approval of the Central Government Council, Wangcheng County was established in the northwest corner of the East Bank of Xiangjiang River and the whole West Bank of Changsha County.
In March 1959, Wangcheng County was abolished and merged into Changsha County, which is under the jurisdiction of Changsha City.
In 1977, the organizational system of Wangcheng County was restored, and the county people's government was stationed in gaotangling.
In 2011, the county was removed and Wangcheng district was set up.

On April 22, 1996, the State Council approved (guohan No. 29) to put Xianing Township in Wangcheng County under the jurisdiction of Kaifu District and Tianding Township under the jurisdiction of Yuelu District.
In 2008, Hunan Provincial Department of Civil Affairs approved (No.3 of Xiangmin Xingfa): the three towns of Hanpu, Pingtang and Lianhua in Wangcheng County were put under the jurisdiction of Yuelu District, and the administrative system, population, area, number of village (neighborhood) committees and government residences of the three towns remained unchanged. After the adjustment of administrative divisions, Wangcheng County has a total area of 1046.42 square kilometers and a total population of 566300. It governs 13 towns and three townships: gaotangling Town, Qiaoyi Town, Dingzi Town, chating Town, Dongcheng Town, Tongguan Town, Jinggang Town, Qiaokou Town, Wushan Town, Xingcheng Town, Leifeng town, yuchangping Town, bairuopu Town, Getang Town, Xinkang town and Huangjin town. In the same year, Hunan Provincial Department of Civil Affairs approved that yuchangping town of Wangcheng County was put under the jurisdiction of Yuelu District of Changsha City.
In June 2008, Wangcheng County entrusted Leifeng town to Changsha high tech Industrial Development Zone. In the same year, Hunan Provincial Department of Civil Affairs approved (xiangminxingfa No.3): the three towns of Hanpu, Pingtang and Lianhua in Wangcheng County were put under the jurisdiction of Yuelu District; Hunan Provincial Department of Civil Affairs approved (xiangminxingfa No.9): yuchangping town in Wangcheng County was put under the jurisdiction of Yuelu District in Changsha City.
In June 2011, Wangcheng County of Hunan Province was abolished and Wangcheng District of Changsha City was established. The former administrative region of Wangcheng County was the administrative region of Wangcheng District of Changsha City. The District People's government is located in gaotangling town.
In June 2012, with the approval of the Provincial Department of civil affairs, gaotangling Town, Xingcheng Town, Huangjin town and T-shaped town in Wangcheng District of Changsha City were abolished, and four sub district offices, gaotangling street, Xingcheng street, Huangjin street and T-shaped street, were established.
In August 2012, with the approval of Changsha Municipal Bureau of civil affairs, gaotangling street, Xingcheng street, Huangjin street and T-shaped street in Wangcheng District of Changsha City were cancelled, and ten sub district offices were set up, including gaotangling street, yujiapo street, Baishazhou street, dazehu street, Yueliangdao street, huangjinyuan street, liaojiaping Street, Jinshanqiao street, dingziwan street and shutangshan street.
In April 2014, Wangcheng District entrusted liaojiaping street to Changsha high tech Zone as a whole.
In May 2015, eight streets of gaotangling, yujiapo, Baishazhou, dazehu, Yueliangdao, Jinshanqiao, huangjinyuan and liaojiaping (entrusted by the high tech Zone) were included in the core planning scope of the new area; in November, Wangcheng District carried out Township zoning adjustment, combining Jinggang town and Getang town to establish Jinggang town; combining Xinkang Township and gaotangling street to establish gaotangling street; and Chating town and Dongcheng Town were merged to establish chating town; wushanpian (including Yuejin, ranjiang, Hejia, Yaojia, Wushan, Daguan and Yuxin) of shenjiaqiao community in Dongcheng Town were divided into Huacheng village of Tongguan town; Guoliang village of chating town was divided into Tongguan town; Tongguan town and shutangshan street were merged to establish Tongguan street; Wushan town and yujiapo street were merged to establish Tongguan street And the establishment of Wushan street; Leifeng town and liaojiaping Street into a system to merge the establishment of Leifeng street. After the merger, it has jurisdiction over 5 townships including bairuopu, Jinggang, Qiaokou, chating and Qiaoyi, 10 streets including Leifeng, huangjinyuan, Jinshanqiao, Baishazhou, dazehu, Yueliangdao, Wushan, gaotangling, Tongguan and dingziwan, with a total of 125 villagers' committees and 40 community residents' committees.
In March 2016, Wangcheng District completed the work of village merging. After the merger, there were 128 villages (communities) in the district.

In the region, the area of hillock land is large, the hillock top is flat extension, and the surface is gentle fluctuation; the central part is hilly hillock land, with an altitude of 60-150 meters, red and yellow soil and green trees; the northeast and northwest parts are lakeside alluvial plain area, with open land and dense lakes, and tuantou lake is the largest. The highest peak in the territory is located in Heimi peak, Qiaoyi Town, with an altitude of 590.5 meters, and the lowest point is located in zhanhu lake, Qiaokou Town, with an altitude of 23.5 meters.

Wangcheng district is a subtropical monsoon humid climate with mild climate and abundant heat. The annual average temperature is 17 ℃ and sunshine is 1610 hours. January is the lowest month in a year, with an average temperature of 4.4 degrees, and July is the highest, with an average temperature of 30 ℃. The frost free period of the whole year is about 270-300 days in other areas except Hei Milu peak. The annual precipitation is about 1370 mm. The annual average precipitation days are 146 days. The monthly precipitation is more than 200 mm in May and June, and more than 100 mm in July and August.

The rivers in Wangcheng district are Xiangjiang River and its tributaries. Bounded by Xiangjiang River, Liulin River, paihong River, Jishui River, Baqu River, Maqiao River, daze lake water system, Longwang port, Guanyin port and Baiquan river flow into Xiangjiang River from the west of the river. The most famous one is Jishui river. There are Huanglong River, Shizhu River and Xianing river flowing in from the East Bank of Xiangjiang River.
The larger lakes in Wangcheng District include Tuanshan lake, Tianjing lake and Getang reservoir. Other reservoirs have a capacity of 1-10 million cubic meters, Guanyinyan reservoir in Huangjin Township and chating reservoir in chating town.

There are more than 30 kinds of underground mineral deposits in Wangcheng District, such as gold, iron, manganese, phosphorus, limestone, granite, basalt, bluestone, clay, river sand gravel, mineral water, etc. Widely developed are granite, brick clay and construction sand. Granite is mainly located in dingziwan street, chating town and Qiaoyi town of Wangcheng district. T-shaped granite was used as building materials in the Southern Song Dynasty and has been mined continuously since the Qing Dynasty. After the founding of new China, T-shaped granite was used in the construction of the Great Hall of the people and Wuhan Yangtze River Bridge. The geological reserves are 13.131 million cubic meters, the recoverable capacity is 11 million cubic meters, and the annual output is 345000 cubic meters. The construction sand is taken from the Xiangjiang River, which is mined orderly according to law, with an annual mining volume of 8.5 million cubic meters. Ceramic clay along the East Bank of Xiangjiang River has been exploited for thousands of years. The south is rich in limestone.
