In Ming Dynasty, it belonged to Da County of Kuizhou, and later to Dongxiang County (Dongxiang town of Xuanhan county). In the early year of Daoguang (1821), it was reduced to Taiping County.
In 1795, Qianlong county was divided into ten groups. In 1802, the county was promoted to Zhili hall. In the second year of Daoguang (1822), Taiping County was restored by Taiping Zhili hall. The "three townships" were called new Taiping at that time, while the former seven townships were old Taiping. In 1911, suiding prefecture (now Dazhou) broke away from the Qing Dynasty and declared independence. In 1914, Taiping County was changed into Wanyuan county. According to the regulations of the League Affairs Office of Sichuan Province, the township security was changed into the District league system. There were ten districts and 52 towns (regiments) in Lianxian city. Among them, seven districts were set up in huangzhongbao.
In 1928, it was withdrawn. In 1929, the governor's office was re established.
In February 1935, the red army went north to resist Japan and withdrew from Wanyuan county. The KMT government restored its organizational system and jurisdiction to the period before the Red Army entered Sichuan. In June of the same year, the division was changed from 10 districts to 4 districts with 39 joint insurance.
In 1941, the joint insurance system was changed to township and Baojia system. There were 24 townships, 214 Baojia, 2040jia, 27897 households and 150469 people in four districts of the county.
In the sixth year of the Republic of China (1917), Yan Deji set up the East Sichuan Yasukuni army headquarters in the old suiding Prefecture, and Yan was appointed commander. In October of 1997, Xiong Kewu, commander in chief of the Sichuan Yasukuni army and governor of Sichuan, was appointed as the commander of the seventh division of the Yasukuni army, stationed in Daxian (Dazhou). At that time, it had jurisdiction over Daxian, Xuanhan, Kaijiang, Wanyuan, Chengkou, Kaixian, Yunyang, Fengjie, Wuxi, Quxian, Yingshan, Yilong, Peng'an, Tongjiang, Nanjiang, Bazhong, Langzhong, Cangxi, Nanbu, Yanting, Zhaohua, Guangyuan, Jiange and Zitong counties.
