Yongcheng Yongcheng, a county-level city directly under the provincial government and a county-level city managed by Shangqiu City, Henan Province, is located in the east of Henan Province, at the junction of Henan, Shandong, Jiangsu and Anhui provinces, known as the "gateway of Eastern Henan". Yongcheng has a total area of 2068 square kilometers. By the end of 2019, Yongcheng has jurisdiction over 6 streets, 24 towns and 1 township. The municipal government is located in the north of people's Square in the middle of Dongfang Avenue. By the end of 2019, Yongcheng has a total population of 1.5811 million and a permanent resident population of 1.2415 million, with an urbanization rate of 50.50%.
Yongcheng is named after the city which can't be broken by water repeatedly, which means "the city of YONGGU". In the Shang Dynasty, Yongcheng built Jiguo, including Yong, Mang, Dang, Luo and other places; in the sixth year of Daye in Sui Dynasty (610), it set up a county; in the Jin Dynasty, it was a state; during the Anti Japanese War, it was the seat of the provincial Party Committee of the CPC Henan Anhui Soviet border region; in 1996, it removed the county and set up a county-level city; in 2014, it became a county directly under the jurisdiction of Henan Province. In 2016, it was planned and constructed as a sub central city of Shangqiu City in Henan Province. On October 8, 2019, it was rated as one of the top 100 counties and cities in China in terms of comprehensive strength, investment potential, new urbanization quality and business environment.
Yongcheng is adjacent to Longhai in the north, Beijing and Shanghai in the East, and Beijing and Kowloon in the West. Lianyungang Huojiang expressway, Yongdeng expressway, Ji Qi expressway, Zhengzhou Xuzhou high speed railway, national highway 311 and Zheng Yong provincial road run through the whole city. Yongcheng is known as "the land of Hanxing" because of Liu Bang's snake cutting uprising in Mangdangshan; Yongcheng is a national civilized city, a national garden city, a national health city, a hometown of longevity in China, a national greening model city, a national demonstration city with strong quality, a national cultural advanced city, and a national top 100 county (city). There are Mangdangshan, Chenguanzhuang martyrs cemetery, Riyue lake, zaolutai, CHONGFA Temple Pagoda and other scenic spots.
According to the preliminary calculation, in 2019, the GDP of Yongcheng city is 61.579 billion yuan, with a year-on-year growth of 8.4%; the added value of the primary industry is 7.795 billion yuan, with a year-on-year growth of 3.8%; the added value of the secondary industry is 26.580 billion yuan, with a year-on-year growth of 9.8%; the added value of the tertiary industry is 27.204 billion yuan, with a year-on-year growth of 8.1%; and the per capita GDP is 49654 yuan.
History of construction
There are more than 10 human settlements in the late primitive society in Yongcheng. The wangyoufang site, zaolutai site and heidui site all belong to the scope of Longshan culture.
In summer, Yongcheng city belongs to Yuzhou.
In Shang Dynasty, there were two small countries, Jiguo and Youhou, including Yongzhou, Zhuo and mangzhu.
In the Western Zhou Dynasty, most of the city was under the state of song, and the southwest was under the state of Jiao. In the spring and Autumn period, most of them belonged to the state of song, and the southwest belonged to Jiao, Chen and Chu successively. The Warring States period belonged to Song state and Chu state successively.
In Qin Dynasty, Dang county (today's Mangshan town) was set up in the territory, which belongs to Dang county. Mang county (today's Chenji Town, south of Liuzhai Village) and Mian County (today's Miancheng town) belong to Sishui county. In 206 BC, it belonged to Xiang Yu's western Chu state.
In the Han Dynasty, mang County, Gan County, Jingqiu Marquis state (today's Taiqiu town) and Jiancheng Marquis state (today's erlangmiao Lake in houling township) belonged to Qiao County of Pei state, while Dang County in the North (today's Mangshan town) belonged to Liang state. In Eastern Han Dynasty, mang county was changed to linsui in Guangwu period, and Jingqiu was changed to Taiqiu in Ming Dynasty. Linsui, Taiqiu and Su counties belong to Pei state, while Dang county belongs to Liang state.
The Three Kingdoms belong to Wei, linsui, Taiqiu, Jianping and Su counties belong to Qiao County, and Dang county belongs to Liang state.
In the Western Jin Dynasty, linsui, Taiqiu and Jianping counties were merged into Wei County, belonging to Qiao state of Yuzhou. Dang county was merged into Xiayi county (now Dangshan County), which is still in Liang state (also known as Liang county). Another part belongs to Dan county (now Dancheng town).
In the Sixteen States of the Eastern Jin Dynasty, the county belonged to the later Zhao Dynasty in the third year of Taining (325), the former Yan Dynasty in the third year of Shengping (359), the former Qin Dynasty in the fifth year of Taihe (370), and the Eastern Jin Dynasty after the battle of Feishui (383).
In the Southern Song Dynasty, in the third year of Yongchu period (422), she county was under the jurisdiction of Liang county; in the first year of Yuanhui period (473), "Xuzhou was set up, Xinchang County was established, and she county was under it.".
After the establishment of the Northern Wei Dynasty, Qi county was assigned to linxu County of qiaozhou, which was later abolished. In 497, Yongcheng city belonged to Liang County of Xuzhou; in 546, the southwest of Yongcheng city belonged to Xiayi County of Matou County of Southern Yanzhou, and the Northeast belonged to Dang County of Xuzhou; in the Northern Qi Dynasty, Anyang County (now Baoshan South of Mangshan town) was set up, and Dang County was merged into Pengcheng county. During this period, the counties under the jurisdiction of Yongcheng county were merged into Min County, and Min county was the main county.

In the Tang Dynasty, Yongcheng and Chen counties belonged to Daoqiao County, Henan Province. In the fifth year of Wude (622), Yongcheng county was moved to mapucheng (a high mountain, also known as Wuying mountain); in the 17th year of Zhenguan (643), the two counties of Xun and Yongcheng were directly under the jurisdiction of Bozhou, and Dangshan County was under the jurisdiction of Songzhou.
In Houliang, Dangshan County was upgraded to Huizhou; in later Tang Dynasty, Dangshan County was restored to Danzhou by abolishing Huizhou, and Bozhou by Yongcheng and Mian counties.
In the Northern Song Dynasty, Yongcheng city only included Yongcheng and Mian counties, which belonged to Bozhou on Huainan East Road.
In 1221, Yongcheng was an important place in the north of Huaihe River, and Baoan military town was set up in Mangshan area. Yongcheng county was upgraded to Yongzhou, which was separated from Bozhou and governed by Yi, Dangshan and Mian counties. Dangshan County once sank in the water and moved to Bao'an town (now Mangshan town).
In the second year of the Yuan Dynasty (1265), Wei County entered Yongzhou, and Yongzhou was demoted to Yongcheng County, which belonged to guide Prefecture, a province in the north of the Yangtze River in Henan Province. In the 25th year of the Yuan Dynasty, guide Prefecture was renamed Bianliang road and Yongcheng was attached to it.
In the Ming Dynasty, Yongcheng County belonged to Kaifeng Prefecture of Henan Province and belonged to Dezhou. In the 24th year of Jiajing (1545), he was promoted to the state of De and attached to Yongcheng.
In the Qing Dynasty, Yongcheng county was set up and belonged to guide Prefecture of Henan Province; in the third year of Xuantong (1911), it was changed to Chengxu and Zhengdao guide Prefecture of Henan Province.
In the second year of the Republic of China (1913), Yongcheng County belonged to Yudong road in Henan Province. In June of the third year of the Republic of China (1914), Yudong road was renamed Kaifeng Road and Yongcheng county was attached to it. In February 1933, Yongcheng county was under the jurisdiction of the second administrative supervision area of Henan Province. During the Anti Japanese war from 1938 to 1945, the Kuomintang area in Yongcheng still belonged to the second administrative supervision area of Henan Province, and the Anti Japanese democratic government area successively belonged to the revolutionary base of Henan Anhui Soviet border region, the second administrative region of Huaibei and the eighth administrative region of Jiangsu Anhui border region. In February 1945, it was renamed Xuefeng county. The southern part of the county was assigned to xuewo County, and the southwestern part of the county was assigned to Xueshang Bo county. In December 1946, Xuefeng, xuewo and xueshangbo were subordinate to the third administrative region of Henan Anhui Soviet border region. From March to November in 1947, the eastern part of the county was under the jurisdiction of Xiao Suyong County; in November 1947, dangnan county was established in the northern part of the county. In March 1949, Xuefeng county was renamed Yongcheng county. Xuewo, xueshangbo, dangnan and other counties were abolished, and the original system was restored. It was subordinate to Suxian District of Northern Anhui.
Since 1952, Yongcheng county has been transferred from Suxian District of Anhui Province to Shangqiu District of Henan Province, and the large-scale change of county has ended. From January 1959 to the end of 1960, it was subordinate to Kaifeng District of Henan Province; from 1961 to 1996, it was subordinate to Shangqiu district. In 1996, Yongcheng county was set up as a county-level city, and its administrative office moved 8 kilometers eastward to build Dongcheng new area in Daxie village, on the North Bank of Tuohe river. In 1997, Shangqiu was set up as a city. Yongcheng city was directly under the central government of Henan Province and managed by Shangqiu City. In 2014, it became a county directly under the provincial government, still under the jurisdiction of Shangqiu City. In 2016, Yongcheng was planned and constructed as a sub central city of Shangqiu City by Henan Province.
Division evolution
The place names with historical records in Yongcheng include Yong (now southwest of Yongcheng city), Ji (now zheshuji east of Shibali town), Wei (now Weicheng town), Longkang (now Longgang town), Wei (now Xinqiao township), gouqiu (now Taiqiu town), mang (now south of Liuzhai village of Chenji town), Dang (now Mangshan town), Wei (now huicunji town), jiao (Erlangmiao lake of houling township).
In the early Ming Dynasty, there were 19 maps of 5 townships and 24 maps of 8 townships in the 35th year of Wanli (1607). Guangxu 29 years (1903), set up 8 Township 25 Li. In 1913, the city was divided into nine districts, and in 1946, 490 townships (towns) were set up.
In the middle of the Qing Dynasty, Dan county (now Dancheng town), Xinxing town and Lutang village in Anhui Province were included. In February 1945, in memory of general Peng Xuefeng who died in Henan Anhui Soviet Anti Japanese base area, he changed his name to Xuefeng county. The southern part of the county belonged to xuewo County, and the southwestern part of the county belonged to Xueshang Bo county. In autumn, the eastern part of Huiting collection and the nearby villages belong to Xiayi. Tiefo temple is part of Yongcheng and 56 natural villages to the north and 8 natural villages to the east of Wangyin River, such as Lulou and Lilou, are under Suxi county (now Suixi); meanwhile, Suxi county has 5 natural villages to the south of Wangyin River, such as Zhaolou and Wangyuan, under Yongcheng; dangnan County was established in November 1947, and the north of the county is under its jurisdiction.
In December 1952, 11 natural villages such as Zhaozhuang and Zhongzhuang in Suixi County were assigned to Yongcheng; in September 1954, 560 natural villages in 28 townships under the jurisdiction of Matou and Xinxing districts were assigned to Xiayi; in 1956, 76 natural villages in Beizhen Township were assigned to Xiayi; in June 1964, 54 natural villages such as hezhai, Wangji and Tushan in the east of Honghe River were assigned to Xiaoxian, and 5 natural villages such as Doulou in the west of Honghe River in Xiaoxian were assigned to Yongcheng; in June 1964, 11 natural villages such as Zhaozhuang and Zhongzhuang in Suixi County were assigned to Yongcheng In 1966 and 1966, six natural villages to the east of blacksmith shed in Xiayi county were assigned to Yongcheng; in July 1966, Wangzhuang and Xinqiao under Fanji commune were assigned to Xiayi, and Lulou and Zhangchang under huodian commune were assigned to Yongcheng.
