Mengjin County is located in the hilly and mountainous areas of central and Western Henan Province, a county under the jurisdiction of Luoyang City. It is 110 km away from Zhengzhou in the East, 90 km away from Sanmenxia in the west, adjacent to Luoyang City in the South and the Yellow River in the north.
The county governs 10 towns, two industrial clusters, 219 village committees and 9 neighborhood committees, with a total area of 758.7 square kilometers and a total population of about 460000. The county government is located in Chengguan town.
In 2019, the county's GDP will exceed 35 billion yuan, and its general public budget revenue will exceed 1.8 billion yuan, ranking 80th among the top 100 counties in six provinces in Central China.
In March 2020, it won the title of national advanced county of village cleaning action, and was praised by the central agricultural office and the Ministry of agriculture and rural areas. On July 29, 2020, it will be included in the list of national health towns (counties) to be reconfirmed in 2019.

Mengjin belonged to mengtu's feudal state in Xia Dynasty, and was the capital inland in the early Shang Dynasty;

After the Jin Dynasty changed Heqing County to Mengjin County, the name of the county has not changed since yuan, Ming, Qing and the Republic of China;
In 1538, when the Yellow River was flooded, the county government moved to the old city of Mengjin; in the Yuan Dynasty, Ming Dynasty and Qing Dynasty, it belonged to Henan government, but the old city remained unchanged. In Jin, yuan, Ming and Qing Dynasties, it was subordinate to Henan Province;
In 1913, it belonged to Yuxi Road. At the beginning of the Republic of China, it was subordinate to heluodao, Henan Province. In 1925, it was subordinate to Daoyin office. In 1927, it was subordinate to western Henan Chief Executive Office of Henan provincial government. In 1933, it was subordinate to the tenth Office of Henan administrative inspector.
In 1949, it belonged to Luoyang special area. In 1959, the county government was moved from the old city to Changhua (now Chengguan town). In 1968, it belonged to Luoyang area. In November 1971, it was divided into Luoyang City, in November 1976, it was re divided into Luoyang City, and in November 1983, it was re divided into Luoyang City. Mengjin County got its name from the meeting of eight hundred princes of King Wu of Zhou in Mengjin. According to the Shangshu "Yugong", Meng Jin noted that "Meng is a place name, in mengzhijin (that is, ferry), it is called Mengjin".

On April 8, 2011, Changbao township of Mengjin County was removed from the township to build a town, and Changbao township was officially renamed Changbao town.

The county is 134 kilometers away from Zhengzhou, the provincial capital, and 10 kilometers away from Luoyang. The county connects Yanshi City and Gongyi City in the East, Luoyang City in the south, Xin'an County in the West and Jiyuan City, Jili District and Mengxian County in the north. The terrain of Mengjin is high in the West and low in the East, high in the middle and low in the north and south. It is shaped like a fish ridge. In the East, the terraces of the Yellow River on the north and south sides are relatively flat. The highest altitude in the western mountainous area is 481 meters, and the lowest altitude in the eastern Yellow River beach is 120 meters. The average altitude of the whole county is 262 meters. The central and western part of the county is covered by Mang Mountain, which is a part of the Loess Plateau. Mangshan is connected with Luoyang basin in the South and the Yellow River Valley in the north. It runs through the whole county from west to East, with a total length of about 55 km and a width of 17 km. The total area is about 568 square kilometers, accounting for 74.8% of the total area of the county. Mangshan is a loess landform, with rolling hills and hills. Gullies are developed. The gullies on the north side connect with the Yellow River Valley in the north-south direction, and the gullies on the south side connect with the Luohe Valley in the northwest and southeast direction. The gullies are generally 40-60m deep, and most of them are "U" shaped.

The annual average sunshine rate is 51%; from April to October, the maximum daily temperature difference is 12.7 ℃ in May, the minimum is 8.6 ℃ in August, and the average accumulated temperature is 5046.4 ℃; the average frost free period is 235 days; the annual average precipitation is 650.2 mm, and the precipitation with guarantee rate of 80% is 600 mm. The highest annual precipitation is 1035.4 mm, and the lowest is 406 mm. The precipitation in July is the most, with an average of 164.1 mm. The precipitation in January is less, only 6.9 mm. Especially in summer, the precipitation changes greatly, which is easy to cause uneven drought and flood.

Mengjin belongs to the Yellow River system, the main rivers are the Yellow River, Jinshui River and Jue river. The Yellow River is the largest river in Mengjin County. It flows from Xin'an County in the west to Gongyi City in the East. It winds in the north of the county and passes through five townships including huanglushan, Xiaolangdi, Wangliang, Baihe and Huimeng, with a flow of 59 km. Xiaolangdi water control project can effectively control its flow. Xixiayuan water conservancy project, located in the lower reaches of the Yellow River, is under construction. Jinshui River flows into Luoyang Jianhe river through Matun Town, 6.5km long in the county, with a drainage area of 62.7km2. Zhanhe River, Hengshui River and tuhe River are seasonal rivers, whose flow either decreases or dries up.

The mineral resources with proven reserves in the county mainly include raw coal, purple sandstone, sandstone, sand and clay.
Raw coal is mainly distributed in Hengshui, Matun and other towns. From 2003 to 2004, Yima coal industry group company and national L29 exploration team explored in Hengshui, and the total reserves are estimated to be about 650 million tons. In December 2004, Yimei group carried out mining in the south of Yuanzhuang village, with an annual output of 1.5 million tons. Purple sandstone is mainly distributed in the west of Xiaolangdi Town, with a total reserve of about 150 million tons. It can be used to make wall tiles and ordinary ceramic utensils. Construction sandstone is mainly distributed in Baihe and Xiaolangdi towns. The dam of Xiaolangdi water control project is mainly constructed by this method. This building is used for roads, slopes and ditches in surrounding counties and cities. A large number of pebbles are distributed along the Bank of the Yellow River, which are either used as raw materials for direct construction and building materials, or for appreciation of rare stones. The construction sand is mainly distributed in the South Bank of the Yellow River, which is carried from the upstream by the long-term flushing effect of the Yellow River water, and is widely used in the surrounding engineering construction. Clay for brick and tile is widely distributed with deep soil layer. It is mainly used for building brick and tile firing. Due to the protection of cultivated land, its development has been stopped.
