On July 1, 1935, the suburbs of Qingdao expanded, and the eastern area of Laoshan, which belongs to Jimo County, was assigned to Qingdao. Along the southern part of the new territories, a rural district of Qingdao is set up, which governs five districts, namely, Li village, Laodong, Laoxi, Xiazhuang and yindao, directly under the jurisdiction of Qingdao city.
In June 1949, the Laoshan administrative office of Nanhai special administration was established. It has jurisdiction over Liuting, Xiazhuang, Xifu Town, wanggezhuang, Huiling, Shazikou, nanzhaike and Wuyi lane.
In April 1951, the Laoshan administrative office was assigned to Qingdao City, including 5 villages in Licun District, Fushan District, sicang District, 10 villages in Jimo county and 4 villages in Dongxian county. In April 2017, China South Korea street was abolished and divided into jinjialing street and new China South Korea street with Liaoyang East Road as the boundary. Jinjialing Street governs 28 communities, and Zhonghan Street governs 21 communities.

The typical granite landform is developed in Laoshan area, which is characterized by thousands of steep Jianfeng mountains, towering mountains, typical fracture landform in valleys, steep cliffs, deep mountains and narrow valleys. Laoshan landform can be roughly divided into upper and lower layers according to the elevation. The upper peak is about 1000 meters above sea level. It was formed during Pleistocene through the alternation of glacial and interglacial climate. The Granite Landforms in the lower layer are mostly accumulated landforms and eroded landforms in the glacial period, and formed by the flowing water activities in the post glacial period.
According to the genesis, the landforms in Laoshan area can be divided into three types: tectonic erosion landforms, tectonic denudation landforms and accumulation landforms. In height, they are distributed in the order of middle and low mountains, hills, coastal plain and mountain valley.
The coastline of Laoshan District starts from the xiaobeihekou in the north of jiangjiatuzhai, ends at laoshantouzhuan in the South and ends at maidaoshangen in the West. It is 103.7 km long and belongs to Bedrock Coast type. The coastline is long and tortuous. There are many bays between the offshore cliffs and headlands, including Laoshan Bay, Taiqing Bay, Liuqing Bay, Shazikou Bay, etc. The beach is not well developed, mostly rock beach, scattered reef, gravel and coarse gravel.
