Yongxiu was called Aidi in ancient times, and Qin belonged to Jiujiang county.
In the sixth year of emperor Gaozu of Han Dynasty (201 BC), Haihun county was established. (the county is located 1km northwest of Lutan, Wucheng town)
In the second year of Yuanjia (425) of the Southern Song Dynasty, Jianchang County was divided into haihun and Jianchang counties, and the county government was set up near the present aicheng street; in the third year of Chen Yongding (559), five counties, Jianchang, AI, Yuning and Xinwu, were set up as Yuning county.
In the ninth year of kaihuang (589), Yongxiu, Yuning, Xinwu and AI counties entered Jianchang. At the beginning of Daye, Jianchang was restored to Yuzhang county.

During the Qing Dynasty, Jianchang County belonged to Nankang Prefecture.
