Sanshui district is located in the middle of Guangdong Province, the northwest end of Pearl River Delta and the northwest of Foshan City. It is named after the confluence of Xijiang River, Beijiang River and Suijiang river. With a total area of 827.69 square kilometers, it has jurisdiction over two streets in southwest and Yundonghai, five towns in Baini, Leping, Lubao, Datang and Nanshan, 71 administrative villages (communities) and 774 natural villages.
Sanshui District has obvious traffic location advantages. It is adjacent to Huadu District of Guangzhou City in the East, Nanhai District of Foshan City in the southeast, Sihui City in the northwest, Qingcheng district and Qingxin District of Qingyuan City in the north, Gaoyao District of Zhaoqing City and Gaoming District of Foshan City across the Xijiang River. Sanshui District has more than 200000 overseas Chinese and compatriots from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan (2010), which is one of the famous hometown of overseas Chinese in Guangdong Province.
Sanshui district is an important production base of auto parts, medical devices, automation machinery and equipment, electronic appliances, electronic electricians, drinks and food in China. Sanshui district is known as "China's first affluent longevity town", "China's beverage city", "national food safety demonstration zone" and so on. Sanshui is located in the northwest border of Guangfo and the middle of Guangfo Zhaoqing economic circle. It is one of the important core cities connecting Foshan and Zhaoqing.
At the end of 2019, the resident population was 685 thousand and 500, of which 455 thousand and 500 registered residence. In 2019, the total gross regional product (initial count) was 125 billion 876 million yuan, an increase of 7.6% over the previous year. Historical evolution
The Beiqiu site in Yinzhou, Baini Town, Sanshui District proves that there were human settlements on this land as early as 4000 years ago in the Neolithic age. According to the old records, the land of Sanshui belonged to Nanhai County in Qin Dynasty. From the Western Han Dynasty to the Eastern Jin Dynasty, it belonged to Panyu and Sihui counties. After the Sui and Tang Dynasties, the uprising of the peasants in the middle land was rampant. Sanshui area was far away from the county government, and the government was unable to reach it. It became a "region of conflict and difficulty". In order to appease the remote areas and benefit the rule, the Ming Dynasty divided Nanhai County into 34 maps in the fifth year of Jiajing (1526) and Gaoyao County into new counties under Guangzhou government in the 17th map. Because the river mouth, where the county is located, controls the confluence of the west, North and Suijiang rivers, the name of the county is Sanshui, which means "the confluence of the three rivers";
In 1920, the system of Guangdong Haidao was abolished, and Sanshui county was directly under the rehabilitation Office of Western District of Guangdong Province;

The former county-level administrative region of Sanshui City is the administrative region of Sanshui District. The District People's government is located in Renmin third road. It was officially listed on January 8, 2003.

In 2003, Sanshui District adjusted its town level administrative divisions to retain only four towns and one street: abolishing Liuhe Town and merging its administrative region into Datang town; abolishing Nanbian sub district office and merging its administrative region (except Baoyue village committee) into Leping Town; abolishing Hekou town and Jinben sub district office and merging its administrative region into southwest sub district office. After the adjustment, it has jurisdiction over one street and four towns: Southwest Street, Baini Town, Leping Town, Lubao town and Datang town.

In 2008, Yundonghai tourism economic zone was abolished and Yundonghai street was built; Liuhe village of Datang town was merged into Jingkou overseas Chinese economic zone and Jinghe town was built.
