History of construction
Nanjiang belonged to the state of BA in ancient times, and Yizhou in Han Dynasty. In the southern and Northern Dynasties, the county was established in 525.
In 555, the second year of emperor Gong of the Western Wei Dynasty, the eastern Bazhou of Liang Dynasty was changed into Jizhou, where the state government is located in Nanjiang town.
Sui kaihuang three years (583) Jizhou jurisdiction Nanjiang, Quxi (later changed to Changchi county), Fuyang, Baishi four counties. In the third year of Daye of Sui Dynasty (607), Jizhou was abolished, and in the first year of Wude of Tang Dynasty (618), Nanjiang county was restored.

In 1516, Nanjiang county was reestablished and named after Nantun River, which is easy to be "difficult" in the south.

In 1919, the warlord "defense area system" was implemented in Sichuan. Nanjiang county was under the defense area of the 29th Army (commander Tian Songyao).
