Siming District, located in the south of Xiamen (Xiamen Island), is subordinate to Xiamen City, Fujian Province. It is located between latitude 24 ° 26 ′~ 24 ° 28 ′ N and longitude 118 ° 03 ′~ 118 ° 13 ′ e. it is composed of the south of Xiamen Island and the whole island of Gulangyu. At the end of Ming Dynasty and the beginning of Qing Dynasty (A.D. 1650), Zheng Chenggong changed jiaheli, Suide Township, Tongan County, to Siming prefecture (meaning "missing Ming Dynasty") in order to resist Qing Dynasty and restore Ming Dynasty.
In 1680, it was abolished; in April 1670, it was restored. In the 23rd year of Kangxi's reign (1684), taixia army was set up to prepare Dao, and Dao Yin was stationed in Fujian. In the sixth year of Yongzheng reign (1728), the Taiwan government was changed to Taiwan Road, belonging to Fujian Province. In the 25th year (1686), the Department of defense was set up in Quanzhou Prefecture. Yongzheng five years (1727 years), belong to Xingquan Road (after Xingquan Yongdao, jurisdiction of today's Quanzhou, Putian, Xiamen, Yongchun state, Datian County) Daozhi moved from Quanzhou to Xiamen.
In the first year of the Republic of China (1912), the government withdrew and Xingquan Yongdao was renamed South Road. In April, jiaheli, Suide Township, Tongan County, was designated as Siming county. In September, it was promoted to Siming Prefecture and abolished. In 1914, it was renamed Xiamen road.
In April 1927, the national government of Nanjing was established. In the following year, Tong'an county was transformed into Zhili Fujian Province.
In 1933, the people's revolutionary government of the people's Republic of China (Fujian people's Government) set up Xiamen special city. Xiamen city was established under the jurisdiction of Xingquan Province, which governs Quanzhou, Putian and Xiamen. After the failure of the "Fujian coup" in January of the next year, Xiamen special city government and Xingquan province were abolished, and the system of Siming county was restored in Xiamen Jurisdiction.
In 1934, Siming county and Tong'an county were subordinate to the fifth inspector general's District of Fujian Province and were stationed in Tong'an county. The following year, the former fifth inspector general's District of Fujian Province was incorporated into the fourth Commissioner's office of Fujian Province. The fourth Commissioner's office was moved from Xianyou County to Tong'an county. In April 1935, Xiamen city was set up on seven islands, including Xiamen and Gulangyu. Siming county was abolished and Heshan special zone was set up. It is the fourth administrative supervision district (located in Tong'an, now Quanzhou, Putian and Xiamen) with Tong'an county.

On May 02, 1950, the system of Xiagang district was abolished, and the original protection of Hongshan, Xinsheng, Taiping, Shuishang, Fuhai and DAAO in Xiagang district were included in Siming District, while the two protection reform of Jingdong and Shentian in Siming District were included in Kaiyuan District. Siming District governs 16 insurance companies. After the establishment of democracy, the Baojia system was abolished, and the urban grassroots political organizations were changed into street committees. Siming District includes Zhongshan, Siming, Taiping, Wen'an, Zhonghua, Min'an, Xiagang, Bishan, and university street committees.
In December 1952, the district office was changed into the District People's government.
In March 1955, the street committee was merged and renamed sub district office.
In June 1956, the street committee completed the merger. Siming District has five sub district offices, namely Siming, Taiping, Wen'an, Zhonghua and Xiagang. During the period of people's communization, the sub district offices were adjusted and merged again. The name of the sub district office was changed to commune, and four communes under the jurisdiction of Siming District.
After the "people's communization" in 1958, the system of integrating government and society was implemented in the three districts.
In April 1964, there was another adjustment in the administrative districts of the city. In the urban area, the city commune was cancelled and the sub district offices were restored. During the "Cultural Revolution", Siming District was renamed Xiangyang District, Siming sub district office was renamed Dongfanghong commune, Wen'an sub district office was renamed Xiangdong commune, and Xiagang sub district office was renamed Qianwei commune.
At the end of 1966, the zengta brigade of the front line commune was merged into Xiangyang District and upgraded to zengta commune.
In February 1970, zengta commune was demoted to a brigade and still attached to the front commune.
On October 1, 1979, the commune was renamed and its original name was restored.
At the end of 1980, Siming District had four sub district offices, Wen'an, Siming, Zhonghua and Xiagang, and 43 neighborhood committees.
On April 26, 2003, the State Council approved to abolish Gulangyu district and Kaiyuan District of Xiamen City, put their administrative areas under the jurisdiction of Siming District of Xiamen City, and abolish their administrative areas, with 12 streets under the jurisdiction of the whole district.
In September 2004, Siming, Zhonghua and Wen'an streets were merged into Zhonghua street, and Park Street was renamed Kaiyuan street. The south area of Hutoushan, which originally straddled Wen'an and Xiagang streets, was classified as Zhonghua street; Wenta area of Wenzao community of Wucun street was classified as the West community of Kaiyuan street; Jingshan area of former Park Street office was classified as Zhonghua community of Zhonghua street. Three buildings (No. 595, one of 595 and two of 595) at No. 595 University Road, which is under the jurisdiction of Xiaao community, Xiagang street, are located in Binhai street, ending the ten-year history of enclave, and belong to Baicheng community, Binhai street.
