Huoshan County, belonging to Lu'an City, Anhui Province, is located in the west of Anhui Province, the hinterland of the Dabie Mountains, and the upper reaches of the Pi River, a tributary of the Huaihe River. The total area is 2043 square kilometers.
The county was established in the fifth year of Yuanfeng (106 BC) of Han Dynasty, and it was called Huoshan County in Sui Dynasty. Generally, it is mountainous landform, and the terrain inclines from southeast to northwest. It belongs to the north subtropical humid monsoon climate zone.

In the 2nd year of Taiqing Dynasty, Yuean county was abolished and Ancheng county was set up Xingxian. Huozhou was abolished in the Northern Qi Dynasty and was renamed Yuean county. In the second year of Tianjia (561), Emperor Chen Wendi restored Huozhou; in the second year of Taijian (570), Emperor Xuandi entered the Northern Zhou Dynasty.
In the early Sui Dynasty, it belonged to Luzhou and later to Lujiang County. In 581, Emperor Wen changed Xincai County of Beipei county to pishui county (where it is governed by today's xiafuqiao town), abolished Yuean county and changed Yuean county to Huoshan County (where it is governed by today's Chengguan town).
In 621, Huoshan County, Yingcheng county and Qiancheng county were established as Huozhou County, and pishui county was changed into Kaihua County. In the first year of Emperor Taizong's Zhenguan reign (627), Huozhou was abolished, and Yingcheng, Qiancheng, Kaihua and Jue counties were incorporated into Huoshan. Huoshan has five counties, belonging to Shouzhou in Huainan. In 697, it was renamed Wuchang county. Zhongzong Shenlong first year (705), still known as Huoshan County. Xuanzong Kaiyuan 27 years (739), renamed Shengtang county. In the first year of Tianbao (742), Huoshan County was set up in the abandoned and prosperous Tang Dynasty, belonging to Shouchun County of Huainan road.
During the Five Dynasties and Ten Kingdoms period, it belonged to the Zhongzheng army in Shouzhou at the beginning. In the Southern Tang Dynasty, it was changed into the Qing Huai army. In the Later Zhou Dynasty, it became the Zhongzheng army. The county was named Huoshan. In the prosperous Tang Dynasty, it was located in the ancient city of fan and Lu'an.
Song Taizu Kaibao eight years (975), merged into Lu'an County, is Huainan road Shouzhou. Huizongzhenghe five years (1115), is Huaixi road Shouchun house.
In the early Yuan Dynasty, it was reduced to Gubu town of Lu'an County, belonging to Luzhou road. In the second year of emperor TAIDING (1325), it belonged to the North Road of Huaixi river. Shundi Zhizheng 12 years (1352), is Huainan Jiangbei province.
In the early years of Hongwu, Emperor Taizu of Ming Dynasty, the inspection department of Gubu town was set up. In the second year of Hongzhi (1489), Huoshan County was established in Kaihua and Xingxian townships of the first Department of Lu'an county and the inspection department of Gubu town.
In the early Qing Dynasty, it belonged to Zhili Prefecture of Lu'an in the second year of Yongzheng (1724).
The first year of the Republic of China (1912), directly under the Anhui Province. From the fourth year of the Republic of China to the sixth year of the Republic of China (from June 1915 to July 1917), it belonged to Anqing road. In October 1921, it was the third administrative supervision district of Anhui Province. In August 1929, it was the second administrative supervision district of Anhui Province.
On September 3, 1936, the county was liberated by the Red Army of Chinese workers and peasants, and the democratic government of Huoshan County was established the next day under the leadership of the West Anhui Working Committee of the Communist Party of China. In April 1938, it belonged to Lu'an special district of Northern Anhui.
In April 1952, it belonged to Lu'an special district of Anhui Province (changed to district in March 1971).

In 2002, Dagushan and hantou villages in Dongcheng Town were merged into Dagushan village, and changlinggang and hongshizui villages were merged into hongshizui village. In 2005, Anhui provincial government designated the former Huoshan eco industrial park as Anhui Huoshan Economic Development Zone, and the Chengdong community, which originally belonged to Hengshan Town, was under the jurisdiction of the development zone. The low mountain area is located in the middle of the county, including zhufo'an, Luoerling, Heishidu, Foziling, Danlong temple and dongxixi, covering an area of 713 square kilometers, accounting for 35% of the total area of the county. The area is 500-800 meters above sea level, with broken mountains, gentle slopes, fertile land and abundant water resources. It is a diversified business area mainly composed of forest, bamboo and grain. Located in the northeast of the county, the hilly area covers four towns, namely Hengshan, xiafuqiao, danjiamiao and huerjie, covering an area of 434 square kilometers, accounting for 21% of the total area of the county. The altitude of this area is below 500 meters, and the lowest is only 50 meters.
