Shexian County, subordinate to Handan City, Hebei Province, is located in the eastern foot of Taihang, the southwest of Hebei Province, and the junction of Shanxi, Hebei and Henan provinces. Backed by Beijing, Tianjin and Hebei, Shexian county is an important hub linking Beijing, Tianjin and Hebei with the Central Plains. The terrain is slowly inclined from northwest to Southeast, belonging to warm temperate semi humid continental monsoon climate; covering an area of 1509 square kilometers, it governs one street, nine towns and eight townships; the total population in 2018 is 430261.
Shexian is an old revolutionary base area and a red holy land. Shexian county was established in 206 BC (the first year of Liu Bang in the Han Dynasty) and was named for wading. Shexian convenient transportation conditions, Han long railway, Yangsuo railway through the territory. In the Northern Wei Dynasty, in the first year of Tianci (404), he entered Linshui county (the old city is in Linshui town of today's Fengfeng mining area), belonging to Wei Yin of Sizhou. In the 11th year of Taiping Zhenjun (450), it was once incorporated into Kaling county (the old city is in the northwest of Licheng County, Shanxi Province), which belongs to Xiangyuan County of Bingzhou. After the eastern and western parts of the Northern Wei Dynasty, it belonged to the Eastern Wei Dynasty. In the Northern Qi Dynasty, it returned to Linshui county. In the sixth year of Jiande (577) of the Northern Zhou Dynasty, Linshui county was transferred to shecheng, belonging to Wei County of Xiangzhou.
Sui, kaihuang seven years (587), Linshui county government moved this territory Xixiu village. Ten years later, Shexian county was restored. It belongs to Shangdang county. In the Northern Song Dynasty, in the third year of Chongning (1104), Luzhou was upgraded to Longde Prefecture, and Shexian still belonged to the county.
In the Southern Song Dynasty, Shexian county was occupied by Jin and belonged to Henan east road. In July 1215, Shexian was promoted to Chongzhou. In August of the next year, the county was restored. Xingding five years (1221) Fu Sheng county for the state.
In the early Yuan Dynasty, it was still Chongzhou. It belongs to Zhending road. In the second year of the Zhiyuan Dynasty (1265), the Prefecture was abandoned. In addition to the 13 villages in piancheng area, the rest of them were assigned to Fuyang County, Cizhou (now Cixian). The next year, the original Shexian county was divided into Fuyang County, and it was restored to Zhending Road, yannanhe North Road. Later, Shexian county was abolished.
In the first year of Hongwu in the Ming Dynasty (1368), it was changed to Fu in July. Shexian county was restored to Zhending Prefecture. The next year, it was transferred to Cizhou, Zhangde Prefecture, Henan Province.
In 1726, Cizhou was changed to Guangping Prefecture, and Shexian county was still Zhangde Prefecture of Henan Province.
At the beginning of the Republic of China, the government system was abolished and Shexian County belonged to Yubei road of Henan Province. In 1927, Shexian county was directly under Henan Province. In 1932, it belonged to the office of the Commissioner of the third administrative supervision district of Henan Province. At the end of 1939, Shexian Anti Japanese government was established. At the beginning of 1940, 13 villages of piancheng county and 54 villages in Yuzhuang area were separated to form piancheng county. The two counties were liberated. In August of the same year, the joint office of Southern Hebei, Taihang and Taiyue was established. Both counties belong to Zhangbei Office of Hebei Taiyuan joint office. In August 1941, the Shanxi Hebei Shandong Henan border region government was established. Shexian county and piancheng County belong to the five special offices of Taihang district. In October 1943, piancheng county was transferred to the sixth special office. In November 1945, the two counties belonged to six special departments. In March 1946, the two counties belonged to three special offices. In May of the same year, piancheng county was merged into Shexian county. In January of the next year, the third special office was changed into the fifth special office, and Shexian county was still under the jurisdiction of the government. In January 1948, it was transferred to the sixth special office. In May of the same year, the government of the Shanxi Hebei Shandong Henan border region merged with the government of the Shanxi Chahar Hebei border region to form the North China joint administrative committee, which was then transformed into the North China People's government. Shexian county was under the sixth special office of Taihang District of the North China administrative region. In March 1949, six special offices were abolished and Shexian county was restored to five special offices.
In May, the serial number of Taihang district was cancelled, and Shexian County belonged to Anyang special office. In August, Taihang district and its special office were abolished, the people's Government of Hebei Province was established, and Shexian county was transferred from Henan Province to Handan special office of Hebei Province. In May 1960, Handan special office was abolished and Shexian County belonged to Handan city. In May 1961, Handan special office was restored. In 1968, Handan special office was changed into Handan regional Revolutionary Committee, and in 1978, it was changed into Handan regional administrative Commissioner's office, all of which are under the jurisdiction of Shexian county. In June 1993, Hebei province implemented the merger of prefectures and cities, and Shexian county was under the jurisdiction of Handan city.

The landform of Shexian county is deep mountain area. The remaining Taihang vein stretches across the whole territory, and the terrain slowly inclines from northwest to Southeast. The terrain is complex, with overlapping peaks, steep cliffs, crisscross mountain valleys and interspersed basins. With an average altitude of 1000 meters, the highest point is yangdanao in the northwest, with an altitude of 1562.9 meters; the lowest point is the riverbed of Zhanghe River in Taicang, Hezhang Township, with an altitude of 203 meters. There are four types of landforms in the whole area: the north, the middle mountain area in the west, the low mountain area in the southeast, the Zhanghe River Valley and the Loess basin (hillock) in the middle. There are 350 mountains with an altitude of more than 1 km.

The surface water runoff of Shexian county belongs to the south canal system, and there are three major rivers: Qingzhang river is the largest river in the territory, belonging to the south canal system of Haihe River Basin. It comes from Zhanshang Town, Xiyang County, Shanxi Province in the East and bafuling, Heshun County, Shanxi Province in the West. It flows from Qingquan village, Licheng County, Shanxi Province to Shexian county. It flows to Zhuozhang River in the east of Hezhang village through Liaocheng, suobao, henandian, shecheng, Guxin, Xida, Hezhang and other towns. It has a total length of 61 kilometers, an average width of 430 meters and a drainage area of 1217 square kilometers. Zhuozhang River belongs to the south canal system of Haihe River Basin. In the south, it comes from fajiushan, Zhangcun, Qinxian County, Shanxi Province, in the west, and sanxiannao, Yushe County, Shanxi Province, in the north. After the confluence of the three sources, it goes out of Shanxi Province and into Shexian County in Mata village, Pingshun County, and converges with qingzhanghe River in Hezhang village. The total length of the territory is 21 kilometers, the average width of the riverbed is 250 meters, and the drainage area is 57 square kilometers. Zhanghe River is formed by the confluence of Qingzhang River and Zhuozhang River. It originates from the east of Hezhang village and is bounded by the river. The south bank is Linzhou city and Anyang County of Henan Province, and the north bank is Taicang of Hezhang Township in the county. It enters Cixian county through kangjiazhuang. It has a total length of 31 kilometers and a drainage area of 28 square kilometers.
