Lipu, a county-level city directly under the central government of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, is managed by Guilin. It is located in the northeast of Guangxi and the south of Guilin, between Liuzhou, Guilin, Wuzhou, Hezhou and Laibin. Pingle County in the East, Jinxiu Yao Autonomous County and Luzhai County in the west, Mengshan county and Zhaoping County in the south, Yongfu county and Yangshuo County in the north. The terrain inclines from west to East, with Zhouzhong high school and low school. Qiaoling mountains are connected to the northwest of the city, and Dayao Mountain is connected to the East. On November 25, 2010, Lipu City, Guilin, Guangxi, won the honorary title of "China's clothes hanger capital". In September 2013, Lipu city was selected as the "hometown of Chinese folk art". In December 2016, Lipu city was listed as the third batch of national new urbanization comprehensive pilot areas. In November 2018, Lipu city was identified as the first batch of innovative counties (cities) by the Ministry of science and technology.

The Three Kingdoms belong to Wu. In the first year of Ganlu (265), Pingle, Yongfeng and Jianling counties were set up in Lipu County. Lipu belongs to Shi'an county and Jianling to Cangwu county.
In Jin Dynasty, Lipu County and Yongfeng County belong to Shi'an County, and Jianling county belongs to Cangwu county.
In the Southern Dynasty, Emperor song and Ming (465-472) changed Shi'an county to shi'jianguo, and Lipu, Jianling and Yongfeng all belonged to shi'jianguo. In the second year of Qi Jianwu (495), the founding of the people's Republic of China was changed to Shi'an County, and Lipu and Jianling belonged to Shi'an county. In 540, Lipu and Jianling belonged to Guizhou.
Sui Dynasty, kaihuang decade (590). Lipu County in the division of Sui county (now Mengshan county). Lipu, Sui Hua and Jianling all belong to Shi'an Prefecture.
Tang Dynasty, Wude four years (621), in Lipu home Lizhou, Chongren county. Lizhou led Lipu, Jianling and Suihua counties. In the first year of Zhenguan (626), Jianling county was established as Yanzhou, and Wulong, Wuhua and Changfeng counties were established. In the 12th year of Zhenguan (638), Lizhou was abandoned and Chongren county was merged into Lipu County; Yanzhou was abandoned and Jianling county and Lipu County were both Guizhou. In the Five Dynasties, Liang changed to Fengshui County, which is Yongning County and belongs to Guizhou.
In the Northern Song Dynasty, in the fourth year of Xining (1071), Fei Yongning and xiuren entered Lipu County, belonging to Jingjiang Prefecture. In the first year of Yuanfeng (1078), xiuren county was restored; in the first year of Yuanyou (1086), Yongning County was restored.
In the Southern Song Dynasty, it was abandoned again.
In Yuan Dynasty, Lipu County and xiuren County belonged to Jingjiang road.
In the early Ming Dynasty, Lipu and xiuren belonged to Guilin. Hongwu eighteen years (1385), waste Lishan County for the township into Lipu County. In February of 1477, yonganzhou was set up as a separate Mountain Township, which belongs to Guilin Prefecture. In 1491, Lipu and xiuren belonged to pingyuefu.

On August 17, 2018, the government of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region issued the notice on revoking Lipu County and establishing county-level Lipu City, revoking Lipu County and establishing county-level Lipu city. The former administrative region of Lipu County is the administrative region of Lipu City, and the people's Government of Lipu city is located at Binjiang 6, Licheng town. Lipu city is directly under the central government of the autonomous region and managed by Guilin city.

Lipu river originates from the northern foot of Laoshan Mountain in Jinxiu Yao Autonomous County. It runs through the city from west to East, flows into Lipu city from longdaoshan Xiaohekou of Jinxiu County, and flows into Pingle county from Meizizhou of Sigong village of Dongchang town. The river is 144.67 km long, 94.7 km long in the city, with a drainage area of 1602.65 square kilometers, accounting for 91% of the city's total drainage area.
Maling River, the largest tributary of Lipu River, originates from the three County Boundaries on the east side of Jiaqiao ridge in the city. From west to East, it flows to shankoutun of Dongchang town and joins Lipu river. The river is 75.1km long and the drainage area is 583.36km2.
Limu river is a primary tributary of Lipu river. It originates from the right side of zhutou mountain and flows from south to north. The river is 38.4 km long with a drainage area of 115.23 square kilometers.
Xingping River, a tributary of Lipu River, originates from taiping'ao in Balu village, Xinping Town, with a length of 22.4 km and a drainage area of 119.29 square km.
Dumo River, a primary tributary of Lipu River, originates from xinzhaiding, Liubu village, Dumo town and flows from south to north to shajie village, Licheng town to join Lipu river. The river is 28.3 km long with a drainage area of 128.34 square kilometers.
Pulu river is a large tributary of Lipu river. It originates from zhanmian mountain at the back of dagongtun in Pulu Yao nationality township. It flows from north to South and flows into Lipu river at Longtou mountain in Qingshan town. The river is 49.9 km long and the drainage area in the county is 187.77 km2.
