From the Qin and Han Dynasties to the second year (346) of Yonghe in the Eastern Jin Dynasty, it belongs to Jiangzhou County of Bajun. From the third year (347) of Yonghe, it belongs to Zhixian County of Bajun in Chuzhou. According to the records of Huayang state, in the Han Dynasty, the county ruled Jiangzhou, and there was a citrus palace in the north of bashui, which is also the present beifucheng.
During the southern and Northern Dynasties, at the end of the Qi Dynasty, Jiangzhou county was changed to Dianjiang County, which was a dependency of Dianjiang County. Since the third year of Wucheng (561) in the Northern Zhou Dynasty, the area belongs to Baxian county.

In 1913, it was changed to Jiangbei County. In 1933, it was transferred to Chongqing. In May 1939, the county government moved to Lianglu town. During the Anti Japanese War, there were three districts in the area: the ninth, tenth and sixteenth districts.
After the founding of the people's Republic of China, in June 1950, the ninth and tenth districts merged into the Second District of Chongqing, and the sixteenth district was changed into the seventh district of Chongqing; in 1952, the seventh district was divided into the second district; in October 1955, the second district was renamed Jiangbei District of Chongqing.

In May 1957, Jiangbei District removed tirentang sub district office and merged into mitingzi and Muguan sub district offices respectively.
In 1958, during the people's communization movement, five townships in Jiangbei District were merged into a commune, the Sino Soviet friendship people's commune (also known as Liangjiang Township People's Committee), which governed four districts, including Shimahe, Guanyinqiao, Cuntan and Tangjiatuo. In November, the original 14 Street (factory) offices were reorganized and merged into six streets, including Shimen, Yuhua village, XIANGGUOSI, mitingzi, ilanxi and Tangjiatuo The people's Committee.
In 1960, when the city became a commune, six sub district people's committees established sub district people's communes respectively, which were restored to sub district offices in the second half of 1962; the Sino Soviet friendship people's commune was abolished in 1961 and transformed into four communes (townships), namely, workers' and peasants' Commune (Shimahe township), Dongfanghong commune (Guanyinqiao township), Bayi commune (Anle township) and Hongxing commune (Tangjiatuo township).
In the first half of 1966, the XIANGGUOSI sub district office was abolished and two sub district offices, Huaxin Street and Gangfeng street, were established. After the beginning of the "Cultural Revolution", some sub district offices and rural communes changed their names. By the end of this year, the district had 11 sub district offices, including Shimen, dashiba, Yonghong, Huaxin Street, Gangfeng, Yuhua village, Hongqi, jiangbeicheng, sandongqiao, hongxingtuo and ilanxi, and 4 people's communes, including Gongnong commune, Dongfanghong commune, Bayi commune and Hongxing commune. By 1969, District, commune and sub district offices had been renamed revolutionary committees.
In December 1973, according to the unified requirements of Chongqing Revolutionary Committee, the three sub district offices of Hongqi, Yonghong and hongxingtuo were restored to their original names of liujiatai, maoershi and Tangjiatuo.
In 1974, Chongqing Jiangbei District Revolutionary Committee was stationed in Huaxin village. Since the second half of 1978, the street revolutionary committees have been restored to street offices.
In January 1981, the Revolutionary Committee of Jiangbei District of Chongqing changed its name to the people's Government of Jiangbei District of Chongqing, the rural communes also changed their name to the Township People's government, and Gangfeng village changed its name to Daxing village. The district has 11 streets including Shimen, dashiba, maoershi, Huaxin Street, Daxing village, Yuhua village, liujiatai, Jiangbei City, sandongqiao, ilanxi and Tangjiatuo, and 4 townships including Shimahe, Guanyinqiao, Cuntan and Tangjiatuo.
On September 24, 1988, with the approval of the municipal government, sandongqiao street was cancelled.
On November 11, 1988, with the approval of Sichuan provincial government, Tangjiatuo town was established to govern the administrative area of Tangjiatuo Township and Tangjiatuo street. On April 25, 1989, Tangjiatuo town was administrated according to the adjusted administrative area.
On March 11, 1993, with the approval of Sichuan provincial government, the CPC Jiangbei District Committee and the district government made the decision on adjusting the organizational system and administrative divisions of the streets and townships. The original 9 streets and 1 town and 3 townships were reorganized into 7 streets and 1 town in three forms: the merger of the streets and townships, the merger of the streets and streets, and the incorporation of some villages into the nearby streets.
