Xiacheng District, subordinate to Hangzhou City, Zhejiang Province, is located in the middle of Hangzhou city. It has 8 streets and 74 communities under its jurisdiction. It was divided into districts in June 1949 and has a subtropical monsoon climate, covering an area of 29.33 square kilometers. Xiacheng District is bounded by Jianggan District in the East, Gongshu District in the north and West, Xihu District in the West and Shangcheng District in the south. Because it is located in the north of Huangcheng District in the Southern Song Dynasty, it is used to be called Xiacheng District. Since the Tang and Song Dynasties, Xiacheng District has been the center of Hangzhou's silk industry, urban culture and education.

Historical evolution
In the late Neolithic period 4000 years ago, the ancestors of Xiacheng had settled in the area of Caohu, engaged in primitive agricultural production, as well as fishing, hunting and animal husbandry.
In the 25th year of the reign of the king of Qin (222 BC), Qin set up Qiantang county and Yuhang county. Yuhang county was located in the north of the territory, belonging to Kuaiji county.
In the fourth year of the first four years of the Western Han Dynasty, Qiantang county was changed to quanting county and Xiacheng county to quanting county.
In the first year of Xingwu (25 years) of the Eastern Han Dynasty, Tang county was given its old name,
Jianwu six years (30 years) Qiantang County into Yuhang County, the city from it.
In 589, the ninth year of kaihuang reign of the Sui Dynasty, the county of Pingchen was abandoned and Wuxing was cut off, and the place of Wujun was set up in Hangzhou. Qiantang County, Fuyang County, Yuhang County, Yuqian County, Yanguan county and Wukang county were under the jurisdiction of the prefecture, and Qiantang County was under the jurisdiction of the prefecture.
In the fourth year of Wude (621) of Tang Dynasty, in order to avoid the taboo of national name, Qian Tang was changed into Qiantang, which was the reason for going down to the city.
In the second year of Longde (922) of Houliang Dynasty, Qiantang county and Yanguan county were cut in Wuyue, and Qianjiang county was established in Changshou and Anjie township of Fuchun county.
In the Northern Song Dynasty, liangzhelu was set up, Qianjiang county was changed into Renhe County, and the county was transferred to zhaoxianfang.
In the 700 years of yuan, Ming and Qing Dynasties, Xiacheng was still the center of Renhe county.
After the revolution of 1911, it was subordinate to Hangzhou county and Hangzhou city.
In June 1949, Xiacheng District was established.
