Taixing is located in the middle of Jiangsu Province and on the North Bank of the lower reaches of the Yangtze River. It is under the jurisdiction of Taizhou City, Jiangsu Province. It is one of the three pilot counties directly under the jurisdiction of Jiangsu Province. It enjoys the authority of some prefecture level cities. It is adjacent to Rugao City in the East, Jingjiang City in the south, Yangzhong City and Xinbei District of Changzhou City across the river in the west, Jiangyan District of Taizhou City in the north, Hai'an city of Nantong City in the northeast and Gaogang District of Taizhou City in the northwest.
Taixing county was set up in the first year of Shengyuan in the Southern Tang Dynasty (937 AD), which means "the country is peaceful, the people are safe, and all industries are prosperous". It is known as "the hometown of education", "the hometown of Ginkgo", "the hometown of Architecture", "the hometown of violin" and "the hometown of reducer".
In 2018, Taixing achieved a GDP of 104 billion yuan. The general public budget revenue was 7.45 billion yuan, an increase of 18.1%, accounting for 84.1% of the total revenue. Taixing belongs to the alluvial plain of the Yangtze River Delta, with an administrative area of 1172 square kilometers. The maximum linear distance between East and west of Taixing is 47.0 kilometers, and the maximum linear distance between North and south of Taixing is 43.5 kilometers. At the end of 2017, the total registered residence population was 1 million 185 thousand and 600, a decrease of 7 thousand and 500 over the previous year. In the Qin Dynasty, the hometown of Taixing was Guangling, which belonged to Jiujiang County; in the Chu and Han Dynasties, it belonged to Dongchu, which belonged to Dongyang county.
In the sixth year of emperor Gaozu of Han Dynasty (201 BC), Guangling was restored, belonging to Jingzhou. Eleven years to Wu. Twelve years ago, it was named Hailing warehouse. In the sixth year of Yuanshou (117 BC), Emperor Wu set up Hailing county. At that time, the hometown of Taixing was Jichuan town of Hailing county.
After Wang Mang came to power, he changed Hailing county to Tingxian.

During the Three Kingdoms period, Cao Cao forced Binjiang county to move people and became an open area, and hailing county was abandoned.
In the first year of Taikang, Emperor Wu of Jin Dynasty (280), hailing county was restored. In 338, it was renamed Haiyang county.
During the song and Qi dynasties, Haiyang county was renamed Hailing County, and the hometown of Taixing was still Hailing county.

After the founding of the county
Taixing County in the first year of the Southern Tang Dynasty (AD 937), belongs to Taizhou, county set Jichuan town.
From the first year of song Jianlong to the second year of Xiangxing (960-1279), Taixing County governed Yinsha (now Jingjiang City).
In 1122, Taixing county was transferred to Yangzhou.

In Ming Dynasty, Taixing County belonged to Yangzhou Prefecture.
In 1471, the seventh year of Chenghua in the Ming Dynasty, the horse of Jiangyin was set up in Jingjiang County, and the Gushan area under the jurisdiction of Taixing county was included in Jingjiang county.
In 1724, Taixing county was changed to Tongzhou.
In 1879, Taixing in Tongzhou, Jiangdu and Ganquan in Yangzhou (now Hanjiang), Danyang and Dantu in Zhenjiang, Wujin in Changzhou, and four prefectures and six counties in taipingzhou (now Yangzhong).
In 1904, duanfang, the governor of the two rivers, set up the Taiping hall, which was under the jurisdiction of the former Dantu, Danyang, Taixing and Jiangdu counties. Taiping hall is subordinate to Zhenjiang Prefecture.
In 1907, Taixing county put fushengzhou, fudezhou, Zaizhou and taizhongzhou under taipingting (now Yangzhong City).
In 1914, Taixing County belonged to Su Changdao.
In 1916, Taixing county was directly under Jiangsu Province.
In 1922, Taixing County belonged to Taizhou administrative supervision district.

In August 2008, Huzhuang Town, the second fishing branch of Taixing City, and seven villages of Xuanbao Town, including Zhaowang, qiaoyang, Minghe, Qianzhao, Guanying, Kongqiao, caizhuang, were assigned to Gaogang District of Taizhou city.
On March 25, 2010, hengduo town and Guxi town were merged to establish a new Guxi town; Xiqiao Town, LIUCHEN town and Huangqiao town were merged to establish a new Huangqiao town; Madian town and Binjiang town were merged to establish a new Binjiang town; Xiangyang, Zhangzhuang, Guozhuang and Sanlian villages of Taixing Town were put under the jurisdiction of Binjiang town; Jianghua town and Qiwei town were merged to establish Hongqiao Town Town.
In 2011, Taixing City abolished Taixing Town and established Jichuan street in its original jurisdiction.
