Lianyun District Lianyun District, the municipal district of Lianyungang City, Jiangsu Province, is one of the main urban areas of Lianyungang City. It is named Lianyun because of its port.
Lianyun District is located in the northeast of Jiangsu Province, adjacent to the Yellow Sea in the East, Guanyun in the south, Haizhou in the West and Ganyu in the north. It is located in the easternmost section of Lianyungang's opening to the outside world and the starting point of the east end of the new Eurasian Continental Bridge. It is the national main hub port where Lianyungang port is located.
Lianyun District is the only city with beautiful seashore in Jiangsu Province. It has national 4A scenic spot, Yuntai Mountain on the sea, national Yuntai Mountain Forest Park, Liandao Beach Resort, the largest island in Jiangsu Province, Liandao, and the top three islands of "Bird Island" in Haizhou Bay. The forest coverage area reaches 80%, and the natural scenery of the island is beautiful and charming.
As of December 2018, Lianyun District has a total administrative area of 836 square kilometers, with jurisdiction over 9 rural streets (Xugou, Haizhouwan, Lianyun, Yunshan, Liandao, Banqiao, Sucheng, gaogongdao streets, and qiansandao township), 16 villages, 27 communities, and a population of 250000.
In November 2016, Lianyun District of Lianyungang City was rated as the second batch of national global tourism demonstration zones by the National Tourism Administration.

Guanyun county was established in 1912 and Lianyun city was established in 1945.

In December 1985, the District moved from Lianyungang town to Xugou town. Qingkou salt farm under the jurisdiction of Ganyu County, Dongxin farm of Jiangsu Province under the jurisdiction of Guanyun County, and agricultural and sideline base of 92323 Navy troops are under the jurisdiction of Lianyun District of Lianyungang City.
In 1996, Lianyun District, covering an area of 94 square kilometers, has jurisdiction over one street, three towns and four townships: Taoan street, Xugou Town, Lianyungang Town, Liandao Town, qiansandao Township, gaogongdao Township, Sucheng Township and Yunshan township. The district government is located in Xugou town.
On October 1, 2001, with the approval of the State Council, Yuntai district was abolished and Chaoyang Town, Xuwei Town, Banqiao Town and zhongyun street in Yuntai district were put under the jurisdiction of Lianyun District.
In 2004, Lianyun District governed four streets, four towns and four townships. Liandao town covers an area of 7.67 square kilometers. Banqiao Town covers an area of 6.12 square kilometers. Xuwei town covers an area of 131.09 square kilometers. Chaoyang town covers an area of 24.46 square kilometers. Yunshan Township covers an area of 16.47 square kilometers. Sucheng Township covers an area of 18.00 square kilometers. Gaogongdao Township covers an area of 8.07 square kilometers.
In 2005, houzui street in Xinpu district and the sea areas and tidal flats within its jurisdiction were put under the jurisdiction of Lianyun District.
In 2006, Yunshan township was abolished and Yunshan street was established; Liandao town was abolished and Liandao street was established. Banqiao sub district office will be established by merging Banqiao Town and Xuwei town in Lianyun District.

After the adjustment of administrative divisions, the administrative area of Lianyun District is 766.44 square kilometers.

Yuntai Mountain is located in the southern margin of the ancient land of North China. It belongs to the geology of Shandong and Jiangsu provinces, and has the same origin as Mount Taishan and mount Laoshan in Shandong. Its rock is metamorphic rock, geologically called gneiss, which was formed by metamorphism after high temperature and pressure during the orogeny 2.45 billion years ago. Its lithology is hard, white and fine.
Yuntai Mountain is composed of five mountains, counting from south to north. The first one is Jinping Mountain, with 21 peaks including ma'er mountain, Baihu mountain and Kongwang mountain; the second one is qianyuntai mountain, also known as nanyuntai mountain, with 74 peaks including yunnv mountain and xiangluding mountain, among which Huaguo Mountain is located; the third one is zhongyuntai mountain, with 13 peaks including Huagai mountain and Xiyun mountain; the fourth one is Houyuntai mountain, also known as beiyuntai mountain In Yuntai Mountain, there are 47 peaks, such as dazhijian and Erzhijian, and Lianyungang port is in the north of the mountain. The fifth one is the East-West Island, and there are two peaks, such as zhijianshan, which are still in the sea and serve as a barrier for the port.

The coastline of Lianyun District is 86 kilometers long, including more than 40 kilometers of bedrock coastline, 63000 mu of coastal beach, 600000 mu of offshore aquaculture waters, and more than 200 square kilometers of low yield salt fields. The area is rich in all kinds of seafood, especially Porphyra, crabs and prawns. It has become the largest county-level Porphyra breeding base in China. The former three islands are also the only sea treasure breeding base in Jiangsu Province. There are many birds on the island, known as "Bird Island".

There are production bases of agricultural and sideline products such as fruits and vegetables in the area, which are rich in rice, wheat, cotton, soybeans and peanuts. Coral vegetable and golden jade bamboo are rare and precious specialties in Jiangsu Province. Yunwu Tea from Yuntai Mountain is one of the three famous teas in Jiangsu Province.
