Putuo District, Putuo District, is located in the northwest of Shanghai city center, and is the starting point for the development of Huning. It is also an important land gateway and transportation hub for Shanghai to connect the Yangtze River Delta and the mainland. It is also the key to Shanghai. It is connected with Jiading District and Baoshan District in the West and North, and Jing'an District, Changning District and Minhang District in the East and south. The total area is 55.53 square kilometers.
Putuo District is an important waterway in the west of Shanghai, named after Putuo road. Wusong River (commonly known as Suzhou River) traverses the whole territory. It is an inland waterway connecting Taihu Lake Basin in the West and Huangpu River and Yangtze River in the East. At the end of the 19th century, Chinese and foreign businessmen built factories on both sides of the Taiwan Strait with the help of the water transportation of Wusong River, which promoted the economic development of the territory and gradually became a famous old industrial zone in Shanghai.
As of 2018, Putuo District has 8 streets and 2 towns. By the end of 2017, Putuo District had a permanent resident population of 1.2847 million, realizing a GDP of 93.346 billion yuan, of which the added value of the secondary industry was 10.436 billion yuan and the added value of the tertiary industry was 82.91 billion yuan. The per capita GDP of Putuo is 72660 yuan according to the resident population.
Historical evolution
As early as before the Tang Dynasty, some areas in Putuo District had become land. Huating county was established in the tenth year of Tianbao (751).
In the 29th year of the Yuan Dynasty (1292), Shanghai county was established, which is now in the south of the district.
Jiading County was established in 1217.
Baoshan county was established in the third year of Yongzheng reign of Qing Dynasty (1725), and now the northern part of Baoshan County successively belongs to it.
Until the end of the 19th century, xibang, lijiabang, mudugang, caijiabang, Qiujiang and other frontiers were still the boundaries of the region, and the north and South belonged to Gaochang Township and fahua township of Shanghai county, Zhenru Township and Pengpu township of Baoshan county.
After the Opium War, Shanghai became a trading port for foreign powers. In 1899, most of the area south of Suzhou River was opened to public concession by the great powers, which began the process of urbanization and gradually became a part of the urban area of Shanghai.
After the establishment of Shanghai special city in 1927, there were 17 districts under its jurisdiction. Except for the public concession, other areas in this district are Zhabei, Pengpu, Zhenru, Pusong and fahua.
During the Anti Japanese War, Wang puppet government "took over" the public concession, re divided the administrative areas, and set up 31 police districts in Shanghai. The area south of Suzhou River was designated as the 13th Police District, which was managed by Putuo Road police station.
In 1945, after the victory of the Anti Japanese War, the government of the Republic of China basically set up districts according to the old police districts, and the area south of Suzhou River was the 13th district. In January 1947, it was renamed Putuo District after Putuo road. At that time, the East, West and North boundaries of the district were all along Suzhou River, and the South boundaries were Anyuan road and Changshou Road.
In May 1949, Shanghai was liberated and Putuo District takeover Committee was established at the end of the same month.
On June 28, 1950, Putuo District People's government was formally established.

geographical environment
Location context
The center of Putuo District is located at 121 ° 39'e and 31 ° 25'n, in the northwest of downtown Shanghai. It starts from the junction of Hutai Road, Pengyuepu and Suzhou River with Jing'an District in the East, borders Changning District and Jing'an District along Suzhou River, Wanhangdu Road, Changshou Road and Anyuan road in the south, borders Shanghai Nanjing railway and huanbang with Jiading District in the west, and connects Zhennan Road, xuejiabang road and Lingshi road with Jiading District and Baoshan District in the north. Suzhou River passes through the area from east to west, 7.5km away from the people's Square in the city center. The total area is 55.53 square kilometers, of which the water area is 1.65 square kilometers.
topographic features
Putuo District is flat and belongs to estuarine coastal alluvial plain. As the Yangtze River carried a large amount of sediment into the sea, the coastline gradually moved eastward, and the territory had become land before the Tang Dynasty. Because it is located in the lower reaches of Wusong River, the evolution of land is different from that of adjacent counties. The tributaries on both sides of the north and the south are densely distributed and crisscross, forming a water network.
Putuo District belongs to accumulation landform, which is the old coastal plain of coastal plain. According to the morphological and genetic principles of geomorphological classification, the regional micro geomorphology can be divided into two types: one is the old coastal plain, which is mainly composed of the sediment carried into the sea by the Yangtze River and deposited by the interaction of sea tides, accounting for about half of the total area of the area, with an altitude of 3.0-4.5 meters; the other is the Wusong River alluvial plain, which was wide in ancient times. Due to the long-term intertwined deposition of river and sea sediment, the riverbed gradually changed Shallow and narrow, forming an alluvial plain. The 1-1.5km strip area on both sides of Wusong River in this area belongs to this alluvial plain, accounting for about half of the total area of the area, with an altitude of 3-4m.
Most of the land is 3-4 meters above sea level. The highest area is in the yangjiaqiao area and the west of Beixinjing nursery, with an altitude of 4.0-4.5 meters. The lowest area is at the junction of Caoyang New Village, shahongbang and Changfeng new village, with an altitude below 2.5 meters. The terrain in the north is slightly higher than that in the south, and that in the west is slightly higher than that in the East. Due to the long-term large-scale exploitation of groundwater in Wusong River, the surface of some areas along the Wusong River has subsided from about 4 meters above sea level to 2.5-3 meters. At high tide, the river water is higher than the surface, which is a major change of regional micro geomorphology.
Climatic characteristics
Putuo District has a monsoon marine climate in the southern margin of the north subtropical zone. It is warm and humid all year round, warm in winter and cool in summer, and has sufficient light. The annual average temperature is 16.1 ℃, the coldest is January, the average temperature is 5.5 ℃, the hottest is August, the monthly average temperature is 26.9 ℃, the annual sunshine hours are 2150.7 hours, the annual total solar radiation is 113.5 kcal / cm2, the annual active accumulated temperature ≥ 10 ℃ is 5009.6 ℃, and the frost free period is 235 days. The average annual rainfall is 1200 mm. The annual average relative humidity is 80%, which belongs to humid or semi humid area.
General situation of hydrology
Putuo District is located in the Yangtze River Estuary Delta area, belonging to the Wusong River Basin of the Yangtze River system, with rich water flow. Putuo District has 45 large and small rivers, 104 large and small rivers, lakes and other water bodies, including 22 backbone rivers, 2 large artificial lakes, 80 general rivers, lakes and water bodies, with a water surface area of 2.722 million square meters.
Putuo District is a tidal river network area in the Yangtze River Delta, which belongs to the Wusong River Basin. In ancient times, Wusong River was called Songjiang River, which originated from Taihu Lake. It was a wide river flowing into the sea alone and formed its own water system
