In 1947, it belonged to Langtou, jiuliancheng and wulongbei. In 1957, it belonged to Langtou, jiuliancheng, loufang and other towns. In 1959, it was built in the suburb of Dongshi. In 1965, it was renamed the suburb of Dandong City. in 1980, Zhenan district was changed.
On March 8, 1981, the people's Government of Liaoning Province approved that the suburb of Dandong City should be renamed as Zhen'an District.
On November 28, 1984, the State Council approved that Banshi village in Chang'an township of Donggou county should be put under the jurisdiction of Zhen'an District of Dandong City.
