Alashankou Alashankou, which belongs to Bortala Mongolian Autonomous Prefecture of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, is built according to Alashankou port. It is located between alatao mountain and baluke mountain. It is adjacent to Kazakhstan in the north, Tuoli County in Tacheng area in the East, Ebinur Lake, Jinghe county and Shuanghe city in the south, and Bole City in the West. It is 79km away from Bole City, the capital of Bozhou, 477km and 500km away from Urumqi by railway and highway respectively, and 12km away from the neighboring dostek port of Kazakhstan. The total area of the city is 1204 square kilometers. It governs alatao street and Abihu Town, with a permanent population of 11000.
In May 2011, the State Council approved the establishment of Alashankou comprehensive bonded zone. In December 2012, Alashankou city was established.

Alashankou city is located in the northeast corner of Bortala Mongolian Autonomous Prefecture of Xinjiang, between alatao mountain and baluke mountain. Alashankou city is an extremely arid temperate desert with long sunshine time and abundant heat. The annual sunshine hours are 4444.9 hours, the sunshine percentage is 60%, the annual average temperature is 8.5 ℃, and the annual average gale above grade 8 is 166 days. The wind direction is mainly northwest wind.
In 2004, the total investment of Alashankou water supply and ecological construction project was 256 million yuan, with a total length of 62 km. It is mainly composed of water intake project, water pipeline project, water tunnel project and jiangbasi regulating reservoir project, which is a class III medium-sized project. The water intake of the project is located at the outlet of halatluk River, 40 km away from Bole City; the tail project jiangbas reservoir is located at 9 km west of Alashankou port, with a storage capacity of 3.8 million cubic meters and an annual water diversion capacity of 23.22 million cubic meters.
In 2001, the background investigation results of rodent vector insects in Alashan pass showed that there were 11 species of rodents, 11 species of fleas (among which the female of Leptopsylla hexadentata was newly recorded in China), 21 species of ticks and mites, 5 species of insects and mosquitoes, and 11 species of flies.
Up to 2012, there are 12 kinds of minerals in Alashankou, such as sulfur, pellet, iron concentrate, iron ore, manganese concentrate, chrome ore and sand.
As of 2013, there were 11000 permanent residents and 32000 floating population in Alashankou city.
