Historical evolution
Dawukou, as early as the Neolithic age, had human activities.
From the beginning of the Western Han Dynasty to the Ming Dynasty, the territory was a dependency of feudal dynasties.
Dawukou, known as "daqiaokou" in Ming Dynasty, refers to today's Dawukou Valley, which means "the mountain pass where stone mill is dug".
"Daqiaokou" was first seen in the new Annals of Ningxia by Hongzhi of Ming Dynasty. The place name Dawukou appeared for the first time in the literature in May 1863. Later, there was a "big mouth". In the later literature, the names of "daqiaokou" and "Dawukou" were mixed.
In the Qing Dynasty, it belonged to Pingluo County of Ningxia. Before the ninth year of Daoguang (1829), Pingluo County added four fortresses in the mountain area along the eastern foot of Helan Mountain, including "daqiaokou fortress" (now Dawukou township), one of the 66 fortresses in the county.
In the first year of Xuantong (1909), there were 96 households and 385 people living in daqiaokou fort.
At the beginning of the Republic of China, along the Qing Dynasty system.
In the thirtieth year of the Republic of China (April 1941), Pingluo County set daqiaokoupu as the fourth township of the county.
In 1943, Li Hanyuan, director of Ningxia construction department, visited Guanghua ceramic factory in Qingshuigou, Helan Mountain. When he passed Dawukou Village (now Dawukou township), he changed the village's "daqiaokou school" into Dawukou school, and explained that "Dawukou" meant that the warriors had fought here. Since then, the name of Dawukou has been used as an official place name.
On September 25, 1949, Dawukou was liberated, and the area still belongs to Pingluo County.
In May 1950, Dawukou was a township in the Second District of Pingluo County (now Chonggang township of Pingluo County).
In February 1956, three senior agricultural production cooperatives, Xinlian (now Dawukou township), Chaohu and Jianquan, were established in five districts and one township. In July of that year, Pingluo County carried out the work of withdrawing districts and merging townships, changing five districts and one township into Dawukou Township, becoming a township directly under the county.
In September 1958, there was an upsurge of establishing large-scale people's communes all over the country. Dawukou Township abolished the township system, changed the three senior communes of Xinlian, Chaohu and Jianquan into production teams, and put them under the leadership of Chonggang people's commune in Pingluo County.
In July 1960, when the people's Revolutionary Committee of Ningxia Autonomous Region established a town in Shitanjing, it used the name of "Dawukou" to call it "Dawukou town".
On May 30, 1961, when the people's commune was established in Dawukou, it was named "Dawukou people's commune".
On June 11, 1963, Pingluo County was put under the leadership of Shizuishan city. The built-up area (urban area) is located in the rolling sand dune desert, commonly known as "mingshaliangzi".
In May 1966, an office was set up in Dawukou commune.
On September 19, 1968, Dawukou town government was established.
On October 23, 1970, the Carboniferous well area was delimited from Dawukou town.
On February 23, 1972, the State Council decided to establish Yinbei area (Shizuishan City, Pingluo County, Helan County, Taole county).
On June 18, 1973, the Revolutionary Committee of Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region decided to upgrade Dawukou town to a district. On July 10, the founding meeting of Dawukou District was held.
From August 10, 1973 to April 6, 1974, Dawukou District was once directly under the central government of Yinbei district. Later, due to the lack of approval from the State Council, Dawukou District returned to the leadership of Shizuishan city.
On November 23, 1975, Yinbei district was abolished, and the organs of Shizuishan City (governing Pingluo County and Taole county) moved from Shizuishan district to Dawukou District. Since then, Dawukou has gradually become the political, economic, military, cultural, educational, sports, transportation, posts and telecommunications, and health center of Shizuishan city.
From December 5, 1975 to March 26, 1981, Dawukou District was renamed as "Shizuishan District 1", and the county-level district system was formally established. After the census of place names, its current name was restored.
When Dawukou District was established on June 18, 1973, it was named after Dawukou.
Since December 5, 1975, "Dawukou District" was changed to "Shizuishan District 1".
On March 26, 1981, the name of Dawukou District was restored through the general survey of place names.
On October 19, 2002, the State Council approved (Guo Han No. 96) to adjust some administrative divisions of Shizuishan City: (1) to abolish Shitanjing District of Shizuishan City and put it under the jurisdiction of Dawukou District. (2) Longhu Diaozhuang Township in Pingluo County and Changsheng, Jiuquan and Chaohu villages in Chonggang Township were put under the jurisdiction of Dawukou District.

topographic features
According to the geomorphological origin and topographic characteristics, Dawukou District can be divided into alluvial fan, aeolian sand land, lake and lake depression.
The alluvial fan is composed of Rujigou, guitougou, wudangmiaogou and Dawukou in Helan Mountain. It is 1108-1148 meters above sea level and covers a total area of 112200 mu. The upper part of the alluvial fan is mostly gravel accumulation, with thin effective soil layer, sparse vegetation, low grass yield and large ground slope; the middle part of the alluvial fan has a gentle slope, with a certain effective soil layer. The areas with thick effective soil layer, such as Changsheng, Chaohu and the farms of the former mining bureau, have been cultivated for agriculture and forestry, and the areas with thin effective soil layer are still natural grassland and wasteland; the end of the alluvial fan is the fan edge In this area, the ground is flat and the soil layer is deep.
Aeolian sandy land is formed under the action of erosion, transportation and accumulation of component forces. According to the movement degree, it can be divided into mobile dune, semi fixed dune and floating dune. The wind sand landlords are mainly distributed in the middle and lower part of the alluvial fan, north of the second farm, covering an area of about 31000 mu. It is basically wasteland.
The low-lying land mainly refers to the dish type depression in Longhu Development Zone and the lake depression on both sides of the second farm canal, with a total area of about 67230 mu. Due to the high surrounding area and low-lying in the middle, the natural gradient is 1:5700, the natural drainage is not smooth, the groundwater level is high, and the groundwater depth is about 1m in non irrigation season. Soil salinization is serious, and the salt content of surface soil (0-20 cm) is more than 3 g / kg.
The water surface of the lake is mainly Xinghai lake and fishing pond, with an area of 50300 Mu and main functions
