Nangqian county is subordinate to Yushu prefecture, Qinghai Province. It is located in east longitude 95 ° 21 ′ 58 ″ ~ 97 ° 07 ′ 0 ″, north latitude 31 ° 32 ′ 20 ″ ~ 32 ° 43 ′ 46 ″. It is adjacent to Haixi Mongolian and Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture in the north, Guoluo Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture in the East, Ganzi Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture in Sichuan Province in the southeast, and Changdu city in Tibet Autonomous Region in the south. The longest is 157.5 km from east to west, and the widest is 130.5 km from north to south, with a total area of 12741 square kilometers. Nangqian county has gold, silver, copper, iron, lead, zinc, tin, gypsum, sulfur, limestone, coal, salt and other mineral resources.

Historical evolution
"Nangqian" means "inner Prime Minister", which is the official name of Tubo Period. According to the genealogy of King Nangqian, Zhiwa ALU, a descendant of the Zhu family, moved to the south of Yushu from the zhedo mountain area of Kangding, Ganzi Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, Sichuan Province with his family members and some of his subordinates. It is said that his ancestor Jihu HuLong Rongbu once served as the interior minister of a dynasty in the mainland. In order to honor his ancestors, he took "Nangqian" as the name of the tribe.
Nangqian county belongs to Qiang Nationality in Wei and Jin Dynasties.
The Tang Dynasty was under the jurisdiction of the Tubo regime.
The Southern Song Dynasty was under the jurisdiction of the head of Nangqian tribe until the Qing Dynasty.
In 1917, it was under the jurisdiction of Yushu.
In 1929, it was under the jurisdiction of Yushu county.
In 1933, Nangqian county was established.
In 1951, Nangqian county government was established along the old road, under the jurisdiction of Yushu Tibetan Autonomous Region (prefecture).
At the end of 1999, it covers an area of 11433 square kilometers and has a population of 59066 (according to Qinghai provincial Chronicles), with jurisdiction over 10 townships. The county government is stationed in Xiangda township.
According to the fifth census in 2000, the total population of Nangqian county is 57387, including 8344 in Xiangda Township, 7536 in baizha Township, 3117 in niangla Township, 3327 in Maozhuang Township, 4764 in Juela Township, 4959 in Dongba Township, 6404 in Jiqu Township, 2886 in Gayang Township, 4221 in jinisai Township, 5353 in Zhuxiao Township and 6476 in xiangdawei township.
On October 15, 2001, Qinghai provincial government issued the reply of qingzhenghan No.99 document: abolishing Xiangda Township and establishing Xiangda town. After the adjustment, Nangqian County governs one town and nine townships: Xiangda Town, baizha Township, niangla Township, Maozhuang Township, Juela Township, Dongba Township, Jiqu Township, Gayang Township, jinisai Township and Zhuxiao township.
At the end of 2001, Nangqian county had one town, nine townships and 69 Village (animal husbandry) committees. Xiangda Town, located in Xiangda, has 12 village (animal husbandry) committees, including Kanda, Qingtu, Daqiao, jiangka, lengri, duochang, qianduo, Bami, lazong, qianmai, dongcaixi and Xiangda. Niangla township is located in nianggong, with jurisdiction over five village (animal husbandry) committees: Toronto, niangduo, niangmai, Shangla and Xiala. Maozhuang township is stationed in Xitang and has five village (animal husbandry) committees, namely, Ziduo, Zimai, Mayong, sewu and Zirong. Juela township is located in nasoni, which governs seven village (animal husbandry) committees, namely nasoni, Bula, jiaojiangni, karongni, Sihong, Xiaoshang and gashao.
