Wangmo County, belonging to Qianxinan Buyi and Miao Autonomous Prefecture of Guizhou Province, is located in the south of Guizhou Province and the east of Qianxinan Prefecture. It borders Luodian County in the East, Leye County of Guangxi Province across the Hongshui River in the south, Zhenfeng and Ceheng counties in the West and Ziyun and Zhenning counties in the north, with a total area of 3018.44 square kilometers.

In the early Qing Dynasty, it was under the jurisdiction of Sicheng Prefecture; in 1661, Sicheng Prefecture was promoted to Sicheng Prefecture; in 1727, Yongfeng Prefecture was set up, and its governance was Changba (now pingrao village, Wangmu Street), which was subordinate to Nanlong Prefecture; in 1729, Yongfeng Prefecture was relocated to ZHENFENG County; Nanlong Prefecture was renamed Xingyi Prefecture, Yongfeng Prefecture was renamed Zhenfeng Prefecture, and most of the counties belong to Zhenfeng Prefecture State.
In September 1913, Zhenfeng Prefecture was changed into Zhenfeng County, which was subordinate to the third administrative supervision district. In 1939, Zhenfeng, Luodian, Ziyun and Guanling were four counties. In 1940, Wangmo county was established, which was named after the homonym of "Queen Mother", and still belonged to the third administrative supervision District.
On May 14, 1951, Wangmo county was liberated and subordinate to Xingren district (renamed Xingyi District in October).
In July 1956, Xingyi district was abolished and Wangmo county was put under Qiannan Buyi and Miao Autonomous Prefecture.
In 1958, Ziyun county was abolished and some administrative divisions were incorporated into Wangmo county.
In 1961, Ziyun county was reestablished, and the administrative divisions merged into Ziyun county were assigned to Ziyun county.
In July 1965, the Xingyi special region was reestablished, and Wangmo county was put under the Xingyi special region (renamed Xingyi region in 1970). In November of the same year, the State Council decided to abolish Wangmo county and establish Wangmo Buyi and Miao Autonomous County.
In September 1981, the State Council abolished Xingyi Prefecture and established Qianxinan Buyi and Miao Autonomous Prefecture, and changed Wangmo Buyi and Miao Autonomous County into Wangmo County, which is subordinate to the newly established Qianxinan Prefecture.

The highest point in the north is located in Paomaping, Dayi Town, with an altitude of 1718.10 meters, and the lowest point in the south is in the area of Hongshui River (DALE), with an altitude of 275 meters.
