Nanming District, belonging to Guiyang City, Guizhou Province, is named after Nanming River. Located in the northeast of Yunnan Guizhou Plateau, it is one of the central urban areas of Guiyang City, the capital of Guizhou Province. In the early Ming Dynasty, it was under the jurisdiction of xuanweisi of Guizhou Province. After Guiyang government was established in 1569, the current district was under the jurisdiction of Guiyang government. In 1687, the 26th year of Emperor Kangxi of Qing Dynasty, Guizhu county was established.
In 1914, Guiyang County was established, which was under the jurisdiction of the district. On July 1, 1941, Guiyang municipal government was established, and the district was under the jurisdiction of the municipal government. In November 1944, Guiyang city was divided into nine districts, and district offices were set up as district level administrative organizations. The first to fifth districts are urban areas, and the sixth to ninth districts are suburbs. Today, Nanming District belongs to the fourth, fifth, sixth and eighth districts.
Guiyang was liberated on November 15, 1949. On November 22 of the same year, the Guiyang military control commission was established. On November 23, the Guiyang Municipal People's government was established. On November 25, it took over the former fourth and fifth district offices of Guiyang city.
In May 1950, in order to meet the needs of urban management and construction, Guiyang City redrawn the urban area, divided the whole city into seven districts, changed the original four and five districts into new three and four districts, and established "the Third District People's office of Guiyang city" and "the Fourth District People's office of Guiyang city".
On September 1, 1950, it was changed into the third and fourth district offices of Guiyang Municipal People's government.
On September 15, 1951, the district office was abolished and the people's governments of the third and fourth districts of Guiyang city were established as organs of political power at the county level.
In June 1953, the third and fourth districts were merged into the third district under the leadership of the Third District People's government, and the former Fourth District People's government was abolished.
In May 1955, at the third session of the Third District People's Congress, the Third District People's Committee of Guiyang city was elected to exercise the functions and powers of the original District People's government. In August, the third district was renamed Nanming District.
In April 1967, the Revolutionary Committee of Nanming District of Guiyang city was established. In August, it was renamed the Revolutionary Committee of Nanming District.
