Zhaojue County, located in the southwest of Sichuan Province, is subordinate to Liangshan Yi Autonomous Prefecture of Sichuan Province, between 27 ° 45 ′ - 28 ° 21 ′ N and 102 ° 22 ′ - 103 ° 19 ′ E. Located in the hinterland of Daliang Mountain, it is 100 kilometers away from Xichang, the capital of the state. It is adjacent to Meigu and Leibo counties in the East, Jinyang, Butuo and Puge counties in the south, Xichang City and Xide County in the west, and Yuexi County in the north. Zhaojue has a long history. In the Neolithic age, human beings lived and multiplied here. In the sixth year of Yuanguang (129 BC) of the Western Han Dynasty, Sima Xiangru passed through qiongpeng, which is now under the jurisdiction of qiongdu;

Zhaojue belonged to Sichuan Province in the period of the Republic of China, and Xikang Province in 1938.
On April 22, 1951, Zhaojue County Yi Autonomous Region was established, which belongs to the office of the Commissioner of Xichang District, Xikang province.
On April 30, 1952, the Central People's government agreed that part of Xichang Prefecture should be designated as Liangshan Yi Autonomous Region;
On October 7, 1952, Liangshan Yi Autonomous Region was established, which was officially classified as a branch of Liangshan Yi Autonomous Region. On October 1, 1955, Xikang province was abolished and Zhaojue belonged to Sichuan Province.
