Yanjiang district has a long history. Yao was the capital of the state, Xia was Liangzhou, Zhou was the capital of the state of Shu, and Yongzhou was the capital of the state of Shu. In 135 BC (the 6th year of Jianyuan reign of Emperor Wu of the Han Dynasty), Yanjiang district was established as a county. Because the city is in the north of Zishui (today's Tuojiang River), it is called "Ziyang". The ecology of Tuojiang River is perfect, and golden geese live forever. Therefore, the river is called Yanjiang, and the city is called Yancheng.
In the comprehensive evaluation of county economy in Sichuan Province in 2014, Yanjiang District ranked 13th in Sichuan Province.
Historical evolution
In Ziyang, Yao was the land of Ziguo, Xia was Liangzhou, Zhou was the land of Shu, and Qin was the land of Shu.
In the sixth year of Jianyuan (135 BC), Emperor Wu of the Han Dynasty set up Zizhong County here, which has a history of 2139 years.
In the second year of Wucheng in the Northern Zhou Dynasty (560), Ziyang County was rebuilt. The area of Zhixian county was larger at the beginning, and then gradually reduced with the partition of Neijiang, Zizhong, Weiyuan, Lezhi, Anyue and Rongxian counties. The subordination of Ziyang County changed frequently, and the districts, townships and towns merged at different times, and became stable after communization in 1958.
In January 1993, Ziyang County was abolished and Ziyang City (county level) was established.
On June 14, 2000, Ziyang City at the county level was abolished and Yanjiang District of Ziyang City was established, with the former administrative region of Ziyang City at the county level as the administrative region of Yanjiang district.
