Anyuan is the birthplace of Chinese workers' revolutionary movement and the main outbreak place of Autumn Harvest Uprising. Historical evolution
According to archaeological findings, Pingxiang had the remains of human activities more than 100000 years ago; four or five thousand years ago, the ancestors settled here, which was a branch of the Baiyue nationality, the Sanmiao nationality, and the ruins of the late primitive society were all over the city; the Shang and Zhou dynasties belonged to Yangzhou, entered the civilized society, and retained the city site at that time.
Pingxiang was the place of Chu in the spring and Autumn period and Warring States period. In the early and middle period of the Three Kingdoms, Pingxiang was the place of Yichun County, Yuzhang County, Yangzhou, the state of Wu. In the end of the Three Kingdoms, Pingxiang county was established in 267, the second year of Baoding, the emperor of Wu. It belongs to Ancheng county and is the border area of Yuzhang, Luling and Changsha. The county government is located in gugang, Luxi, which is the beginning of Pingxiang county.
After the founding of the people's Republic of China, Pingxiang belonged to Yuanzhou District, later renamed Nanchang District and Yichun district.
In 1949, it was an urban area.
In 1950, it was divided into city and pingkuang. It was withdrawn in 1956.
On September 30, 1960, Pingxiang was changed into a city, belonging to Yichun district; in 1962, the city was divided into eight districts, among which Chengguan District is the rudiment of Anyuan District.
On March 10, 1970, Pingxiang was upgraded to a provincial city.

Houwupi township was removed from township to establish town.
In May 1993, with the approval of the State Council, Chengguan District was renamed Anyuan District.

The water system in Anyuan District is divided into Dongting Lake system and Poyang Lake system in the Yangtze River Basin. There are five main rivers in the city, namely Pingshui, Lishui, caoshui, Yuanshui and Lianshui. Yuanshui and Lianshui originated from Luoxiao mountain and Wugong Mountain and flowed into Ganjiang River; Pingshui, Lishui and caoshui originated from Wugong Mountain and Luoxiao mountain and Yangqi mountain and finally flowed into Xiangjiang River.
