In the sixth year of Han Jianyuan (135), Emperor Wu of Han Dynasty sent troops to the west to develop "Southwest Yi". The Han nationality began to move in and set up prefectures. Ebian Yi Autonomous County belongs to the northern part of the Kangdian axis on the western margin of the Yangtze paraplatform. The pre Sinian metamorphic rocks and the upper Paleozoic and Mesozoic sedimentary rocks are widely exposed, mainly the low metamorphic sedimentary rocks. The volcanic rocks are mainly composed of light gray, flesh yellow and black granite. The metamorphic rocks are mainly low metamorphic calcareous phyllite, slate and limestone.
