Muchuan County, a county under the jurisdiction of Leshan City, Sichuan Province, is located in the southwest of Sichuan Basin and in the delta between Minjiang River, Dadu River and Jinsha River in the upper reaches of the Yangtze River.
Yibin in the East, Pingshan County in the south, Shawan District and Qianwei County in the north, Ebian Yi Autonomous County in the West and Mabian Yi Autonomous County in the southwest. It covers an area of 1408 square kilometers and has a population of 260000. Muchuan was a place of Bo in Zhou Dynasty.

In 875, the second year of Qianfu of emperor Xizong of Tang Dynasty, a city was built to guard against Yi people. Home to muyuan town.

On March 31, 2003, Muchuan County abolished Xinjie Township and merged the administrative regions of six villages into Xinfan township; abolished Ganjian Township and merged the administrative regions of four villages into Dibao township; abolished huogu Township and merged the administrative regions of five villages into Lidian town.

Muchuan county is located in the southwest edge of Sichuan Basin, at the north foot of Wuzhishan mountain, the remnant of Xiaoliangshan mountain, and in the southeast of Leshan City. It is 100km from Leshan and 250km from Chengdu in the north, 90km from Mabian and 150km from Leibo in the west, 80km from Suijiang in Yunnan in the south, and 120km from Yibin in the East.

Muchuan county is inclined from southwest to northeast. The highest point in the county is located in Ximi mountain in huogu Township, with an altitude of 1900m; the lowest point is at the entrance of Minjiang River of Longxi River in Jianban Town, with an altitude of 306m, and the extreme relative elevation difference is nearly 1600m. The terrain is mainly mountainous, which accounts for 97% of the land area of Muchuan county. On both sides of the river, there are often a few flat dams, which are the main farming areas.
