Dongxing District, subordinate to Neijiang City, Sichuan Province, is located in the central and southern part of Sichuan Basin and on the East Bank of the middle reaches of Tuojiang River. It is a key new urban area of Neijiang City. Dongxing District is adjacent to Rongchang District in the East, Da'an district and Longchang city in the south, Shizhong District in the west, Zizhong County and Anyue County in the north. Chengdu Chongqing railway, Guangcheng highway (321 national highway) and Xiamen Chengdu Expressway (G76) cross the border, 153 kilometers away from Chengdu and 146 kilometers away from Chongqing, with a total area of 1180.58 square kilometers.
Dongxing District was once known as a "sweet city" for its abundant sugarcane and developed sugar industry, and also known as a "hometown of calligraphy and painting" for the emergence of the eldest son of Gongsun, the master of traditional Chinese painting Zhang Daqian, Zhang Shanzi, and Fan Changjiang, the news giant.
By the end of 2019, Dongxing District has jurisdiction over 5 streets and 14 towns. In 2017, the permanent resident population of Dongxing District was 775300, realizing a GDP of 212129.3 billion yuan, of which the added value of the primary industry was 495198 million yuan, an increase of 3.7%; the added value of the secondary industry was 63348 million yuan, the added value of the tertiary industry was 99261.5 million yuan, and the ratio of the three industrial structures was 23.3:29.9:46.8.
Historical evolution
In the Yongjian period of Emperor Shun of the Eastern Han Dynasty (126-144), Han'an county was established in the south of xizizhong County, which was subordinate to Qianwei County of Yizhou.
In the second year of Tianhe (567), Emperor Wu of the Northern Zhou Dynasty, Zhongjiang County was established as a state of capital.
In the first year of Emperor Wen of Sui Dynasty (581), it was renamed Neijiang county.
At the beginning of the Yuan Dynasty, the county was abandoned and put into Jianzhou. Neijiang county was restored at the end of the Yuan Dynasty and changed at the end of the Qing Dynasty.
At the beginning of the Republic of China, it was subordinate to Zizhou, xiachuannandao and yongningdao successively.
In 1922, Zhili was established in Hunan Province.
At the beginning of liberation, it belonged to the office of Zizhong administrative inspector of southern Sichuan administrative region.
In July 1951, Neijiang county was divided into East, South, West, North and Dongxing towns, and Neijiang City (now Downtown) was established. The people's Government of Neijiang county was stationed in downtown.
On July 7, 1989, Neijiang county was abolished and Dongxing District of Neijiang City was established. The District People's government moved to Dongxing town.
On September 19, 1995, the district was divided and adjusted with Shizhong District by Tuojiang River.

In August 1992, Dongxing District moved away from the office and built a township. Seven rural offices, 52 townships and 6 towns were removed and merged. Two townships were retained and adjusted to 11 townships, 16 towns and 1 sub district office, namely, seven rural offices of Lingjia, Shengli, Tianjia, Guobei, Gaoliang, Baihe and Shunhe were abolished. In September 1995, with the approval of the provincial government, Dongxing District and Shizhong District of Neijiang City were adjusted according to the administrative division with Tuojiang River as the boundary. To the east of Tuojiang River, Guoguang Township, Beimu town and 14 villages under the jurisdiction of Shizhong District. The 126 villages under the jurisdiction of Lingjia Town, Chaoyang Town, Yong'an town (excluding the 5 villages under the jurisdiction of original crystal township to the east of Tuojiang River), Quan'an Town, Jingmin Town, 5 towns and 1 township of Tuojiang township to the west of Tuojiang River are delineated. After the adjustment, Dongxing District has jurisdiction over 12 towns, 11 townships, 1 sub district office and 431 villages. In October of the same year, with the approval of the provincial and municipal governments, nine villages of Dazhi Township, including Dafo, Tieshan, Heishi, Chuanzhu, Yongxing, Tuzhu, Huangjing, Tuanjie and Banqiao, were separated from Gaoliang town. In June 1997, with the approval of the provincial and municipal governments, Guoguang township was abolished and Xinjiang street was set up. The administrative jurisdiction and office location remained unchanged.
In 2003, Minjiang, Beidu and Pipa village committees were abolished. By the end of 2013, Dongxing District had jurisdiction over 12 towns, 14 townships, 3 sub district offices, 428 villagers' committees, 4009 villagers' groups, 55 community residents' committees and 368 residents' groups.
On December 17, 2014, the people's Government of Sichuan Province approved the revocation of Shengli town and the establishment of Shengli Street in Dongxing District; the revocation of Beinan Township and the establishment of Beinan town; the revocation of Yongdong Township and the establishment of Yongxing Town; the revocation of Pingping Township and the establishment of Pingping town.
On May 25, 2015, the people's Government of Sichuan Province approved the cancellation of Zhongshan Township and the establishment of Zhongshan town in Dongxing District, and agreed to cancel Liuqiao Township and establish Liuqiao town. We agreed to abolish Shuangqiao Township and establish Shuangqiao town. We agreed to abolish Fuxi Township and establish Fuxi town.
