Jinjiang District, under the jurisdiction of Chengdu City, Sichuan Province, was founded on January 1, 1991. Its name comes from the historical origin of "Zhuojin River" (Jinjiang River). It is the central urban area of Chengdu City. The terrain is mainly plain and belongs to subtropical humid monsoon climate, with a total area of 61.12 square kilometers. Qin is a county of Chengdu. In 643, the 17th year of Zhenguan in Tang Dynasty, Chengdu county was established as Shu county. In 758, Shu county was renamed Huayang county. Since then, the main body has not changed and belongs to Chengdu area.
In 1953, it was renamed Dongcheng District.
In 1955, Wangjiang district was merged into Dongcheng District.
In 1990, Dongcheng District was abolished, and its main part was changed to Jinjiang District.

In 2011, Jinjiang District originally had 21 sub district offices, including 19 urban sub district offices except Liulichang and gaodianzi. This time, 12 sub district offices including Renmin South Road, Tianya Shibei street, Wangjiaba, Qingshiqiao, dongkushi street, Junlong street, Banxian street, Zhiquan street, Heping Street, Zitong qiaozheng street, luopd street and shahepu have been cancelled; 8 sub district offices including duyuan street, Shuyuan street, Hejiangting, Shuijingfang, Longzhou Road, Lianxin street, Shuanggui road and shahepu have been set up; 4 sub district offices in Yanshikou and chunkou have been set up Xilu, niushikou and other three streets have made some regional adjustments, while Dongguang and Shizishan Street offices remain unchanged.
On December 8, 2003, the residence of Sansheng township government in Jinjiang District was moved from gaodianzi to No. 3, fenfangyan village.
On January 8, 2004, Liuli township was abolished. In February 2004, Liulichang sub district office system was abolished and Liujiang and Chenglong road sub district office system was set up. The relevant administrative division adjustment plans were as follows: Liulichang sub district office system was abolished; Liujiang and Chenglong road sub district office system was set up; part of the administrative area of Sansheng Township and part of the area north of the original Liuli Township were assigned to Chenglong road sub district; part of the original Liuli township was assigned to Liujiang Street; part of the original Liuli township is classified as Sansheng township.
On September 21, 2004, the system of Sansheng township was abolished, and the sub district office management system was implemented in its administrative region. In 2004, Jinjiang District governed 16 streets (duyuan street, Yanshikou, Chunxi Road, Shuyuan street, Hejiangting, Shuijingfang, niushikou, Longzhou Road, Shuanggui Road, Shizishan, Lianxin, Shahe, Dongguang, Chenglong Road, Liujiang, Sansheng), 44 community committees and 17 village committees.
On December 25, 2019, Chengdu Municipal People's Government approved Jinjiang District's adjustment of street administrative division (CFH [2019] No. 118): 1. Cancel duyuan street and Yanshikou street and put them under the jurisdiction of Chunxi Road; put Chunxi Road, Huaxing street community and Yuefu Street Community under the jurisdiction of Shuyuan Street; 2.
