Xiushan Tujia and Miao Autonomous County is subordinate to Chongqing. Located in the southeast of Chongqing, in the middle of Wuling mountains and outside the southeast edge of Sichuan Basin, it is an important gateway to the southeast of Sichuan and Chongqing. It is adjacent to Longshan County, Baojing County and Huayuan County in Hunan Province in the East, Songtao County in Guizhou Province in the southwest, and Youyang County in the north.
By the end of 2013, Xiushan County had a total area of 2462 square kilometers, under the jurisdiction of 27 towns and streets. The resident population in Xiushan County is 501590 (670 thousand registered residence population). There are 30 ethnic groups, including Tujia and Miao, Yao, Dong, Bai, Buyi and so on. The minority population accounts for 58.7% of the total population.
In zhixiushan written by Zhang Kai, a poet of Qing Dynasty, "the roads of Shu are sometimes exhausted, but the spring breeze is few.". It vividly depicts the unique endowment of Xiushan Autonomous County of Chongqing as "one foot on three provinces, three provinces in one city".

In October 2017, Chongqing Municipal People's Government approved Xiushan Tujia and Miao Autonomous County to withdraw from the poverty-stricken county sequence. In 2019, the GDP will reach 28.301 billion yuan.
Historical evolution
Xiushan County, Yugong is the territory of Liangzhou.
During the Shang and Zhou dynasties, it belonged to the state of Ba. In the spring and Autumn period, it belonged to the south of Ba state.
In Qin Dynasty, it belonged to Qianzhong county. In Han Dynasty, it belonged to Fuling county and Danxing county. In the fifth year of emperor Gaozu of Han Dynasty (202 BC), Qianzhong county was divided into Ba County and Wuling County, which belonged to Youyang Prefecture. In the third year of the first Yuan Dynasty (84 BC), the county was located in the south of Fuling county. In 201, the sixth year of Jian'an in the Eastern Han Dynasty, Fuling county was set up in Ba County, and Danxing county was located in Fuling county.
During the Three Kingdoms period, in 221, the first year of Zhangwu in Shu Han Dynasty, Youyang County was set up, which was subordinate to Wuling County of Jingzhou. County belongs to Youyang County. In the northern and Southern Dynasties, Shu Han system was followed.
In Sui Dynasty, it belonged to Wuchuan County. In the reign of emperor kaihuang of Sui Dynasty, Wuchuan County was set up, which is now Yanhe Tujia Autonomous County in Guizhou Province. In the third year of Daye (607), Wuchuan was under the jurisdiction of Badong County.
In Tang Dynasty, it belonged to Wuchuan County. In the fourth year of Wude (621), Emperor Gaozu of Tang Dynasty set up Wuzhou with Fuyang and Wuchuan of Badong County, and implemented the Jimi policy. The county belonged to Wuzhou and Wuchuan County. In 630, Taizong changed Wuzhou into Sizhou. Tang Xuanzong Kaiyuan twenty years (732 years), is a Jiangnan Daosi state Wuchuan County.
During the Five Dynasties and Ten Kingdoms period, the ran family occupied the Shidi and Hongan parts in the northeast of the county, while the Yang family occupied the southwest of the county.
In 1111, pingchadong was set up in the southwest of the county, belonging to Jimi state. After that, Yimei, PingCha and shiye became Prefects.
Yuan Chengzong Dade six years (1302), changed the Yi Mei to Buddha village hole long lawsuit. After withdrawing PingCha, Chenghua's military and civilian government filed a lawsuit against Rongjiang, Zhizi, PingCha, etc., shiye was still Shunde's military and civilian magistrate. At the end of the Yuan Dynasty and the Ming Dynasty, Yuzhen took charge of Shu, and changed the magistrate of Yimei Buddhist town to the magistrate of Yimei yanbianxidong.
In the eighth year of Hongwu (1375), Emperor Taizu of the Ming Dynasty, the prefects of Meiyi and shiye were dismissed, and they were demoted to the chief secretary. They were led by Xuanwei Department of Youyang, and were transferred to Chongqing Wei. The lawsuits of Rongjiang, Zhizi and PingCha were transferred to the lawsuits of pingchadong and Rongxi zhimaziping, which were under the jurisdiction of Huguang Sinan Xuanwei. In the 17th year of Hongwu (1384), he was transferred to Sichuan chief secretary. In the early Yongle period of Ming Dynasty (1403), Meili was changed to Chongqing Wei, and he was the deputy chief of geshiyesi Di Zhidi Badong. In the 25th year of Jiajing reign of emperor Shizong of the Ming Dynasty (1546), he transferred Rongxi zhimaziping to shangjili, Youyang, and dismissed Rongxi zhimaziping.
In the fourth year of Emperor Yongzheng of the Qing Dynasty (1726), the southwest of China began to reform the land and return to China on a large scale. In the first year of Qianlong reign of Emperor Gaozong of the Qing Dynasty (1736), the chieftain occupied Shidi, songnong and Wansen in the southeast of Youyang. Xiushan County (now sanhechang township) was set up. At the beginning, it was subordinate to qianpengting. Xuanzaoting was changed to Zhili Prefecture of Youyang, Sichuan Province. An inspection office was set up in Shidi, ending the chieftain system in Xiushan area.
In the first year of the Republic of China (1912), Xiushan County was subordinate to East Sichuan Road. In 1913, Shidi inspection office was divided into counties. In 1934, the eastern Guizhou Soviet area was established in the county, which governed Qingxi, Longfeng, gaoxiu, Junling, Zhongling, Lanqiao, Jiujiang, Meijiang, Xinglong, Yajiang, Pingma, Daban, Yongxing, Liren, Baoan, Diba, Gaotian, Shidi and other townships in the county, and established three Soviet regimes, namely, jiegouhe, bamang and Bapan. In 1935, Xiushan County was subordinate to the eighth administrative supervision district. In the 28th year of the Republic of China (1939), during the construction period of Sichuan and Kangxi, the Council proposed to set up "Qingjiang province" in 48 counties of Sichuan, Guizhou, Hunan and Hubei provinces, with Xiushan County as the provincial capital, and completed the legal examination and approval procedures, which was later stopped due to the civil war. In April 1949, the security commander of the eighth administrative supervision district of Sichuan Province informed by secret telegram that in order to deal with the Chinese people's Liberation Army's march into Sichuan and southwest China, four counties, Xiushan County, Youyang County, Qianjiang county and Pengshui County, were set up to set up appeasement offices in Sichuan, Hunan and Hubei border regions.
On November 20, 1949, Xiushan County People's government, the first county-level people's political power institution in Southwest China, was established, which is subordinate to Fuling Commissioner's office of East Sichuan administrative office of Southwest China. On January 23, 1950, Xiushan County, Youyang County and Qianjiang County under the jurisdiction of Fuling special district set up the "Office of administrative inspector of Youyang District in eastern Sichuan" to govern Youyang County. Xiushan County is subordinate to Youyang special office. On September 5, 1952, Youyang District Office of the Commissioner of administrative supervision was abolished and merged into Fuling District Office of the Commissioner of administrative supervision. In 1952, Jiujiang township of Xiushan County was assigned to Songtao County of Guizhou Province.
On April 4, 1983, Xiushan Tujia and Miao Autonomous County was established. The original administrative region remained unchanged. The people's Government of the Autonomous County was stationed in Zhonghe Town, and it was still under the jurisdiction of Fuling regional Commissioner's office. In May 1988, it was established in Qianjiang area, and Xiushan Tujia Miao Autonomous County was transferred to Qianjiang area.
In March 1997, Xiushan Tujia and Miao Autonomous County was transferred to Chongqing along with Qianjiang area.
In 2001, after the Qianjiang Development Zone was withdrawn, Xiushan Tujia and Miao Autonomous County was directly under the jurisdiction of Chongqing Municipality.

In 2011, Xiushan County abolished Guanzhou Township, Gaotian Township, Xikou Township, miaoquan Township, songnong Township, Liren Township, Zhongling Township, tangao Township, Ganchuan Township, Baoan Township, Pingma Township, Ba Township, Zhonghe town and Pingkai Town, established Zhonghe street, Wuyang street, Pingkai street, Gaotian Town, Xikou Town, miaoquan Town, songnong Town, Liren town and Zhongling Town, and expanded Qingxichang town and Longchi town Shidi Town, Hongan town and Meijiang town.
