In 1942, the fourth and seventh districts were merged into the second district to govern the Liujiang River. In 1945, it was transferred to the Fifth District to govern Baise.

In 1949, it was transferred to the newly established 12 districts to govern Fengshan.

On November 29, 1949, the Chinese people's Liberation Army liberated Donglan county.

In January 1950, the people's Government of Donglan county was established under the jurisdiction of Yishan district. In May, it became under the jurisdiction of Baise district.

In August 1965, Donglan county was changed to Hechi district (later to Hechi District).

In June 2002, Hechi district was changed into prefecture level Hechi City, which belongs to Donglan county.

In May 2020, with the approval of the people's Government of Guangxi Autonomous Region, it will withdraw from the sequence of poverty-stricken counties.

The inner river of Donglan county belongs to the Hongshui River system of the Pearl River Basin. Except that the Dongping River in the southwest flows into the Panyang River in Bama County, the other rivers flow into the Hongshui River from the northeast and southwest to the middle along the slope direction of the terrain. Hongshui River, the main stream, runs through it, and its tributaries are distributed on both sides, with Pingyong of Datong as the outlet.

There are 250 rivers and streams in Donglan county (excluding Hongshui River), of which the rain collecting area is more than 40 square kilometers, including 9 rivers, such as baying River, Banlong River, pola River, Lanyang River, Jiuqu River, banlao River, pohao River, Sanjia River and Dongping River. Except that baying river originates from Fengshan, the rest originates from the county. The total length of rivers in the county is 340.7 km (excluding 92 km of Hongshui River), with a rainfall collection area of 2415 square kilometers. The average annual runoff is 1.607 billion cubic meters, the maximum flow is 1232.6 cubic meters per second, and the minimum flow is 0.5767 cubic meters per second. Rivers and streams are distributed unevenly. There are many rivers and streams in Tushan area, but there are no surface rivers in Shishan area
