geology
The Geotectonics of HUAIJI County was uplifted from the seafloor to the land due to the Caledonian movement in the early Paleozoic, which belongs to the western Guangdong uplift belt. Since the Devonian (330-400 million years ago), it has been exposed to the sea and become an ancient block. During the Hercynian (Variscan) movement (200-300 million years ago) in the late Paleozoic, it subsided and received Devonian and Carboniferous sediments (285-330 million years ago). The Mesozoic Indosinian movement was dominated by the formation of fold fault zone, and the direction of HUAIJI fault was controlled by Caledonian structure. The Yanshanian movement (140-195 million years ago) is mainly characterized by faulting in HUAIJI County. The fault line from Jincheng county to Lianmai and Zhongzhou is obvious, forming a NE-SW fault system, and intruding a large number of granites along the fold uplift area formed by Indosinian movement. On the local granite intrusive structure, Mesozoic red rock series are deposited. At this time, most of the area and the surrounding area is still a vast ocean. The Cenozoic Himalayan movement (25-70 million years ago) was not strong in HUAIJI County. Its main function was fault and deflection, which made the Dangshan mountain form fault block mountain and the crust rise again. After that, there was no subsidence movement in HUAIJI County.
The distribution area of exposed strata in the county accounts for about 69.5% of the total area of the county, and the preserved strata are incomplete. According to the age, the oldest strata are Cambrian, and the upper strata are Devonian, lower Carboniferous, Jurassic, Upper Cretaceous and Quaternary. The Cambrian and Upper Cretaceous are the most widely distributed strata, which are the main strata, followed by the Quaternary. The Devonian, lower Carboniferous and Jurassic are sporadically exposed, and the distribution range is small. The Cambrian system is mainly distributed in the east of Lianmai Huaicheng YONGGU line, with shiyangshan niuqiling and Fenggang Jiedong Aozi YONGGU areas most widely exposed, followed by Dangshan qixingding on the western edge. The Cretaceous system is mainly distributed in three areas in the county, namely Zhongzhou Lengkeng Liangcun Zhagang Huaicheng Luolong in the middle, sanbaoding muzhuling in the west of Qiaotou town in the southwest, and Tantou Jiedong Xiaozhu in the East, forming three northeast red basins of Huaicheng, sanbaoding and Xiaozhu.
The strata in HUAIJI County are mainly composed of fine-grained clastic materials, including magmatic rocks, metamorphic rocks and sedimentary rocks. The magmatic rocks are mainly granite, which are mainly distributed in Qiashui, Zhongzhou, Xiashuai and Lanzhong in the north, Fenggang and Gansha in the East, YONGGU and Shidong in the south, accounting for 38% of the total area of the county. Metamorphic rocks are mainly distributed in the East and Southeast, accounting for about 30% of the county area. Sedimentary rocks are mainly distributed in the central and western areas, accounting for about 20% of the county area. Among them, limestone is mainly distributed in Qiaotou town, and Dagang, Liangcun, Gangping, Wenlang, Huaicheng, Lianmai and Zhongzhou towns are also partially covered; sandstone is mainly distributed in Aozi, Huaicheng, Dakengshan, Lianmai and Zhongzhou towns, and Fude, Baoliang and Yongliang villages in YONGGU town.
topographic features
HUAIJI County is located in the western Guangdong uplift belt, and its landform can be roughly divided into three parts: the western basin area, the central and southern low and high hilly areas, and the eastern, northern and northwestern mountainous areas. The whole area is mountainous and hilly, accounting for 80% of the total area of the county. During the Mesozoic Yanshanian movement, granite magma intruded into the north, East and south of the county, uplifting the site and forming a mountain area with high in the north and low in the south, and inclined from northwest to Southeast. After long-term erosion by the river, hills were formed in the middle and south of the county. The mountainous terrain in the county fluctuates greatly. There are 60 peaks above 1000 meters above sea level in the county, including 53 in the north. Dachouding mountain, at the junction of Qiashui town and Yangshan County, is 1626 meters above sea level, the highest peak of the whole county and Zhaoqing City. Touyue, Eryue and Sanyue, which are more than 1000 meters above sea level, stand side by side in the West. The altitude of the county is 52.4-54.1 meters. The highest mountain in the south of the county is only 253 meters, which is more than 200 meters lower than the paddy field in Shiying village, Qiashui town in the northeast.
The county has a basin area of more than 710 square kilometers, accounting for about 20% of the total area of the county. There are basins of different sizes distributed in all towns (townships), among which the western basin is the largest, about 400 square kilometers, followed by Huaicheng basin and Zhongzhou basin. The western basin is a red rock basin of Mesozoic depression, which is generally composed of plain, terrace and platform. The ground slope is generally 5-20 degrees, and there are 1-2m high residual hills. Liangcun town area is alluvial and valley basin, Dagang Town is mainly residual, maning town and Lengkeng town are formed by alluvial, residual and proluvial. The western basin is the main grain producing area of HUAIJI County.
