Hengdong County, Hengdong County, belongs to Hengyang City, Hunan Province. It is located in the south of eastern Hunan, between Hengyang Basin and Liyou basin in the middle reaches of Xiangjiang River. It is adjacent to you County in the East, Anren County and Hengnan County in the south, Xiangjiang River, 50 km long and 400 m wide, and Hengshan County in the west, and Lukou District in the north. The forest coverage rate of the county reaches 51%, and it is one of the "top 100 afforestation counties in China".
Known as "the land of fish and rice", "the land of shadow play", "the land of flower drum play", "the land of paper cutting" and "the land of seals", it is the only "famous local vegetable county" in Hunan Province up to 2014.
In 2015, according to the township zoning adjustment plan of Hengdong County, after the adjustment, it was under the jurisdiction of 2 townships and 15 towns: tazhuang, Zhenzhu and Chengguan towns, which were incorporated into the organic system and established Jishui town. Dezhen, Limu, Mojing three townships and Wuji town formed a system and merged to establish Wuji town. Daqiao town and sanzhang Township formed a system and merged to establish sanzhang town. CaoShi town and Gaotang Township formed a system and merged to establish CaoShi town.
In the current round of township administrative division adjustment, Hengdong County has abolished seven township level organizational systems, and now has jurisdiction over two townships of Shitan and Nanwan, and 15 towns of Jishui, Wuji, sanzhang, CaoShi, Dapu, Xintang, Xialiu, Ganxi, Yangqiao, Ronghuan, PENGYUAN, Shiwan, Bailian, Yanglin and Gaohu. The county people's government is located in Jishui town.

Historical evolution
According to the unearthed ancient cultural sites, Hengdong area in the late Neolithic Longshan culture 5500-6000 years ago, there are ancestors in Xiangjiang River, Mishui coast habitat settlement.
By the middle of Shang Dynasty in the 15th century BC, under the influence of the Central Plains culture, Hengdong region had entered the bronze age from the Neolithic age. In the middle of the Warring States period, with the southward movement of Chu culture, it entered the iron age.
During the period of mourning for the king of Chu in the middle Warring States period (401-380 BC), Hengdong belonged to pangyi of Chu.
In 201 BC, the Qin Dynasty unified China, and Hengdong region began to have its organizational evolution. From 257 to 1966, Hengshan County was under the jurisdiction of Hengyang County, Hengzhou, Hengzhou Road, Hengzhou Prefecture, Hengyang road and Hengyang area.
In the middle of Ming Dynasty, Hengdong culture and education got great development, and established many academies. He Keming, Peng Jun, Tan Xinzhen and so on were the top scholars in Yuan and Qing Dynasties.
On January 18, 1966, the 160th meeting of the State Council decided to set up Hengdong County in the administrative region east of Xiangjiang River in Hengshan County of Hengyang City, which was named after its location in the east of Hengshan Mountain and subordinate to Hengyang district.
After the merger of Hengyang district and Hengyang City in 1984, Hengdong County was subordinate to Hengyang City.
In 1996, Hengdong County covers an area of 1925 square kilometers and has a population of about 641000. There are 169 rivers, streams and harbors in Hengdong. Xiangjiang river meanders 85.1km to the west of the county, which becomes the natural boundary of the west of the county. The river flows 83.9km from east to west. The water quality of the river is excellent, reaching the national secondary water quality standard. The north and south of the county will be naturally separated. With a hydropower reserve of 150000 kilowatts and a total installed capacity of 43300 kilowatts, it is an advanced county in water conservancy construction in China.
