Taigu District, belonging to Jinzhong City, Shanxi Province, is located in the northeast of Jinzhong Basin. In the 26th year of the first emperor of Qin Dynasty (221 BC), after the unification of the whole country, the system of prefectures and counties was carried out. Yangyi county was set up in the territory (the county was governed by today's Yangyi Village), which was under the jurisdiction of Taiyuan county (governing Jinyang). In 598, Yangyi county was renamed Taigu County, belonging to Bingzhou. On December 9, 2019, with the approval of the State Council, Taigu County was abolished and Taigu District of Jinzhong City was established. Taigu district has two high-speed railways in Daxi and Taijiao, two expressways in Taichang and Yuqi, two expressways in Jinzhong and two expressways in Madame Road, which are an important part of the planning of "one main, one deputy, one district and many groups" in Taiyuan metropolitan area.

Historical evolution
As early as the Neolithic age, human activities were very common in Taigu, and they settled in the Wuma River Basin. Later, they belonged to the chieftain of Gaoxin family in Diku, which was the living and activity area of Qi, the ancestor of Shang Dynasty, before Yao Qi's separation.
Emperor Yao belonged to Jizhou. When Yushun divided the world into twelve states, it belonged to Bingzhou. In the Xia and Yin dynasties, it belonged to Jizhou. In the late Shang Dynasty, Jingyu became a place where Huaxia and Rongdi nomadic tribes lived together, named "Ji". Jiguo is a small country of Shang Dynasty. Its capital, Jicheng, is located in the area of Baiyan and Wangcun in Taigu County.
At the time of King Wu of Zhou Dynasty, the territory belonged to Huang, which was one of the 17 vassal states in Shanxi. Later, it belonged to Bingzhou. In the spring and Autumn period, it belongs to the territory of Jinyang city of the state of Jin, which is called Yangcheng. During the reign of King Xiang of Zhou Dynasty, the Marquis of Jin Dynasty gave his father the place of Yang as the Food City, which was called Yang City. In the 23rd year of King Zhou Weilie (403 BC), the three families of Zhao, Wei and Han divided into Jin Dynasty, belonging to the state of Zhao.

In the early Western Han Dynasty, it was still called Yangyi County, and the whole territory was daiwangheng territory. During the reign of emperor Ping of the Han Dynasty, it belonged to Taiyuan County, the governor of Bingzhou.
In the 14th year of Tianfeng (the first year of Wang Mang's new reign), the name of the county was changed from Yangyi county to Fanzao county.
After the establishment of the Eastern Han Dynasty, it was renamed Yangyi county and still belonged to Taiyuan county.
During the Three Kingdoms period, the whole territory was under the jurisdiction of the state of Wei and Bingzhou, under the jurisdiction of Taiyuan county.
In the Western Jin Dynasty, the situation was still under the jurisdiction of Bingzhou, belonging to the state of Taiyuan.
During the period of Sixteen States, it was ruled by Han (former Zhao), Hou Zhao, Qian Yan, Qian Qin, Xi Yan and Hou Yan.
During the Northern Wei Dynasty, the system of state, county and county was implemented, belonging to Bingzhou Taiyuan county. In the third year of Yongxi (534), the Northern Wei Dynasty was divided into Eastern Wei and Western Wei. In the eighth year of Wuding in the Eastern Wei Dynasty (550), the Northern Qi Dynasty replaced the Eastern Wei Dynasty, and the whole territory was under the control of the Northern Qi Dynasty, belonging to Bingzhou Taiyuan county. In the first year of Chengguang in the Northern Qi Dynasty (577), the Northern Zhou Dynasty destroyed the Northern Qi Dynasty, and the whole territory returned to the Zhou Dynasty. In the same year (the sixth year of Jiande, Emperor Wu of the Northern Zhou Dynasty), the county government moved from Yangyi to Baita Village (where the county is now located).
After the Sui Dynasty unified the whole country, the county level system was abolished, and the state and county level system was established. In 598, Yangyi county was renamed Taigu County, belonging to Bingzhou. Daye three years (607) and changed to county, line County, county two-level system, belongs to Taiyuan county.
In the early Tang Dynasty, the system of state and county was implemented, and Taigu County was a state. In the third year of Wude (620), Taizhou was set up in Taigu County, leading Taigu County and Qixian County; in the sixth year of Wude (623), Taizhou was abolished, and Taigu County and Qixian County were still under the jurisdiction of Bingzhou. From Zhenguan, the system of Taoism was established. Taigu County was under the jurisdiction of Hedong Taoism and belonged to Bingzhou. Kaiyuan 11 years (723 years), and changed to Taiyuan Prefecture, Taiyuan Prefecture.
During the Five Dynasties and Ten Kingdoms period, the whole territory was successively owned by Houliang, later Tang, later Jin, later Han and Northern Han. The establishment of prefectures and counties remained basically unchanged.
In the Northern Song Dynasty, Taigu County was located in Taiyuan, on Guihe East Road. After Jin Dynasty destroyed the Northern Song Dynasty, its subordination remained unchanged.
The Yuan Dynasty was under the jurisdiction of Taiyuan road of Zhongshu province. Dade nine years (1305), Taiyuan road to Jining Road, still under its jurisdiction.

In May 1912, it was under the jurisdiction of Shanxi Province. In the second year of the Republic of China (1913), there was Dao under the province, which was under the jurisdiction of Jining Dao (now Yangqu county). In April 1927, the Daoist system was abolished and still under the jurisdiction of Shanxi Province. On July 7, 1937, the Japanese army invaded China. In October of the same year, Yan Xishan divided Shanxi Province into seven administrative regions, and Taigu County was the third administrative region. On November 7, the Japanese army occupied Taigu, controlled the Tongpu railway, and divided Taigu into East and west parts. On December 12, the Anti Japanese Democratic county government (Ludong) led by the Communist Party of China was established in haojiazhuang, Dongshan, under the jurisdiction of the third administrative region of Shanxi Province. In February 1938, Yan Xishan established the eighth and ninth administrative regions. In June of the same year, the west of Tongpu railway in Taigu County was transferred to Yuci Taigu County (also known as "Luxi County"), which was under the jurisdiction of the eighth special district of Jinsui base area; in September, Yan Xishan sent officers to take over the political power of Ludong Anti Japanese County government, which was transferred to the eighth administrative region. In December of the next year, the regime of Yan Xishan County collapsed. In January 1940, Ludong Anti Japanese county government under the leadership of the Communist Party was rebuilt. In August of the same year, the administrative joint office of Southern Hebei, Taihang and Taiyue Anti Japanese bases was officially established, and the first office of Taihang district was located in the west of Taigu County. In July 1941, the government of the Shanxi Hebei Shandong Henan border region was established, and Taihang district was transformed into the government of the border region directly under the central government. In September of the same year, the border region government implemented the new zoning, and the east of Taigu County road belongs to the second special area of Taihang District of the border region government. In May 1943, Yutai (Luxi) county was changed into yutaiqi (Xian) United County, which belonged to the second special district of Taihang administrative office of Shanxi Hebei Shandong Henan border region. On July 13, 1948, Taigu County was liberated and the separated Taigu County was restored. In August of the same year, it was transferred to the third special district of Jinzhong Administrative Office (the special office is located in Taigu County).
In February 1949, it was transferred to the third special district of Taiyuan city. In September of the same year, Yuci special district was established under its jurisdiction. Yuci special office was located in Taigu County (in less than January, it moved to Yuci city).
In October 1958, it was under the jurisdiction of Shanxi technical secondary school and merged with Qixian County, known as Taigu County.
In May 1961, Taigu County and Qixian County were set up separately, and the original construction was restored.
In September 1968, it was under the jurisdiction of Jinzhong region.
In September 1999, Jinzhong City was set up under the jurisdiction of Jinzhong City.
On December 9, 2019, with the approval of the State Council, Taigu County was abolished and Taigu District of Jinzhong City was established. The administrative jurisdiction and government residence remained unchanged.
On March 31, 2020, the 17th meeting of the Standing Committee of the 13th people's Congress of Shanxi Province approved the abolition of Taigu County and the establishment of Taigu District of Jinzhong City with the approval of the State Council. The former administrative region of Taigu County is the administrative region of Taigu district.
On April 26, 2020, the founding meeting of Taigu district was held in Jinzhong City of Shanxi Province, marking that Jinzhong City of Shanxi Province officially bid farewell to the history of single district city and ushered in the second district after Yuci District Taigu District of Jinzhong City.

Before the Qing Dynasty, Taigu had 83 Li households. From the first year of Shunzhi to the third year of Xuantong in the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911), the number of households was reduced to 42 Li: there were three levels of township (square), capital (LI) and village below the county. It is composed of 4 townships and 8 squares, and the countryside governs 34 capitals (LI).
During the early years of the Republic of China. Before the July 7th incident, Taigu County was divided into five districts. At the end of the 26th year of the Republic of China (1937), Taigu Anti Japanese county government was established, and the whole county was divided into four districts. At the end of the 28th year of the Republic of China (1939), more than 30 villages to the west of the railway were divided into Yutai Road West Office (later known as Yutai Qi Road West County), known as Taisan district. It was not until January 1948 that Luxi County was abolished. In June 1940, the east of the railway was divided into six districts. In the winter of 1946, the system of six districts was restored, and the areas south of Xiangyu River, north of Wuma River, east of railway, and east to Bianshan under the jurisdiction of the five districts were classified as the seventh district. In July 1948, Taigu was liberated. The original Lu Xi Tai San district was divided into the eighth District, and Chengguan District was added.
In April 1950, the nine districts were reduced to five districts, one town and 46 townships.
In December 1956, the district was withdrawn and the township was merged. There are 16 townships and 1 town in the county.
In August 1958, it was divided into eight townships and one town.
From October 1958 to May 1961, Taigu County and Qixian County merged, and the township system was changed to the commune management committee system. The county has 12 people's commune management committees.
