Lengshuijiang is a county-level city under the jurisdiction of Hunan Province, which is managed by Loudi City. Located in the middle reaches of Zishui River in the central part of Hunan Province, it connects Lianyuan City in the East, Xinhua County in the West and Xinshao County in the south, with a total area of 439 square kilometers. In 2016, Lengshuijiang had a total population of 372400. Lengshuijiang City is high in the north and South and low in the middle, with an asymmetric saddle shape. It has a subtropical monsoon climate and convenient transportation. The Hunan Guizhou railway and louhuai Expressway run through the whole city from east to west, and Zishui can be navigable throughout the year. The scenic spots include bolue cave, Mahayana mountain, etc.
Lengshuijiang is a typical resource-based industrial city. The tin mine in Lengshuijiang is known as "antimony capital of the world" because it is rich in antimony. Lengshuijiang is one of the cities supported by the central China rise strategy and the western development policy, and one of the 44 resource exhausted cities supported by the transformation and development policy of the State Council.
In 2016, Lengshuijiang achieved a GDP of 28.88 billion yuan. In November 2018, it was selected into the top 100 of the overall well-off index of China's county-level cities. On January 29, 2021, it was selected into the list of areas with remarkable achievements in real work in 2020 announced by Hunan Provincial People's government.
Historical evolution
In Ming and Qing Dynasties, it belonged to the tenth capital of Taiyang Township, Xinhua County, Baoqing Prefecture, Hunan Province.
During the period of the Republic of China, it belonged to Anji Township, Xinhua County.
In June 1950, qikuang, Qili 2 Township and Feishuiyan, Kuangshan and Lengshuijiang towns in Xinhua County were designated, and the people's Government of Xikuangshan mining area was established, which belongs to Shaoyang special office (Shaoyang special area).
In April 1951, nine townships and three towns in the mining area were merged into seven townships and three towns, and two townships of Qitong and xialian were abolished.
In August 1952, the mining area was abolished, and the townships and towns under its jurisdiction were put under the leadership of Xinhua County.
In February 1960, Lengshuijiang was first built, with jurisdiction over five people's communes of Heqing, Maoyi, Kuangshan, Zhonglian and Zhadu, and three towns of Xikuangshan, Jinzhushan and Lengshuijiang. In May of the same year, the three towns were transformed into urban people's communes. In February 1960, Loudi City and Lengshuijiang City were established under the jurisdiction of Shaoyang district. In July 1961, it was renamed lengjiang city.
In October 1962, Lengshuijiang City and Loudi City were abolished and merged into Xinhua County and Lianyuan county respectively.
In March 1962, five rural people's communes and three urban people's communes were adjusted to 13 rural people's communes, namely Heqing, Sanjian, Panqiao, Maoyi, Zilong, Duoshan, Yankou, Kuangshan, Yanjia, Zhonglian, Huaxi and Zhadu, and three urban people's communes, namely Jinzhushan, Xikuangshan and Wuyi. In October 1963, the municipal system was abolished and the lengjiang special zone was set up under the jurisdiction of Xinhua County.
In October 1969, Lengshuijiang was built for the second time, with jurisdiction over seven communes including Heqing, Panqiao, Maoyi, Zilong, Jinzhushan, Zhadu and Zhonglian, and two towns including Lengshuijiang and Xikuangshan.
In October 1969, the State Council approved the restoration of Lengshuijiang City.
In September 1977, with the approval of the State Council, Shaoyang was divided into Lianyuan and Shaoyang. Lianyuan Prefecture governs 5 counties of Xinhua, Xinshao, Shaodong, Shuangfeng, Lianyuan and Lengshuijiang City, and the regional authorities are located in Loudi town. In November of the same year, Lianyuan regional Revolutionary Committee was established, and in March 1979, it was renamed Lianyuan regional administrative office.
In July 1980, the State Council approved the restoration of Loudi City (a county-level city), which included Loudi town in Lianyuan County, Dongfeng and Minfu brigades in Shanshan commune, Fangshi and Shuiyang brigades in Xiyang commune, and Sitang brigades in Baimu commune. In December 1982, Lianyuan area was renamed Loudi area. In July 1983, Hunan Province adjusted its administrative divisions and assigned Shaodong and Xinshao counties in Loudi prefecture to Shaoyang City. That year, Loudi Prefecture governed three counties and two cities (Loudi City and Lengshuijiang City). In June 1987, the State Council approved the abolition of Lianyuan county and the establishment of Lianyuan City, with its administrative region unchanged.
In January 1999, with the approval of the State Council, Loudi district was abolished and a prefecture level Loudi City was established. Lengshuijiang City belongs to Loudi City.

In October 1969, Lengshuijiang governed seven communes including Heqing, Panqiao, Maoyi, Zilong, Jinzhushan, Zhadu and Zhonglian, and two towns including Lengshuijiang and Xikuangshan.
In June 1975, Kuangshan, Yankou, Duoshan and Sanjian communes were transferred from Xinhua County to the city. Lengshuijiang has 11 communes and 2 towns.
In December 1977, Tongxing, Baiyang, Baishi and Yongxing teams were set up from Zhonglian commune to establish the city's agricultural science and technology demonstration field.
In September 1981, Lengshuijiang and Xikuangshan towns were changed into sub district offices, and shatangwan and Qiuxi sub district offices were added. In December of the same year, the demonstration site was canceled and Tongxing commune was established. At the end of the year, Lengshuijiang had 4 sub district offices and 12 people's communes.
In June 1983, the people's commune of Mao Yi and Tongxing was the Township People's government. In early 1984, 10 communes including Jinzhushan, Heqing, Zhonglian and Zhadu were transformed into Township People's governments.
At the end of 1987, there were 4 sub district offices in Lengshuijiang, Xichang, Qiuxi and shatangwan, and 12 townships in Jinzhushan, Maoyi, Zhadu, Zilong, Heqing, Panqiao, Zhonglian, Sanjian, Kuangshan, Yankou, Duoshan and Tongxing.
In 1989, Heqing township was replaced by Heqing Town, Yankou township was replaced by Yankou Town, and Zhadu township was replaced by Zhadu town.
In September 1996, Duoshan township was abolished and replaced by Duoshan town.
In December 1999, Maoyi township was abolished and Maoyi town was established.
In February 2002, Sanjian township was abolished and changed into Sanjian town.
In July 2009, with the approval of the provincial government, Lengshuijiang adjusted the administrative divisions of shatangwan sub district office, Maoyi town and Jinzhushan township. Liuxi, Changpu and Xinmin villages in Maoyi town and wangpingwan neighborhood committee, and Taiping Village in Jinzhushan township are under the jurisdiction of shatangwan sub district office; Taizhong, taizhushan, Jinshan, Jinzhushan and mushaao neighborhood committees in shatangwan sub district office are under the jurisdiction of Jinzhushan township.
In May 2010, Jinzhushan township was abolished and Jinzhushan town was established.
By the beginning of 2014, Lengshuijiang had jurisdiction over 4 streets, 7 towns and 5 townships: Lengshuijiang street, Xikuangshan street, shatangwan street, Buxi street, Heqing Town, Yankou Town, Zhadu Town, Duoshan Town, Maoyi Town, Sanjian Town, Jinzhushan Town, Panqiao Township, Zilong Township, Kuangshan Township, Zhonglian Township and Tongxing township.
In 2015, according to the adjustment plan of Lengshuijiang Township division, after the adjustment, it has jurisdiction over 1 township of Zhonglian, 5 towns of Heqing, Sanjian, Jinzhushan, Duoshan and Zhadu, and 4 streets of Lengshuijiang, Buxi, Xikuangshan and shatangwan.
