Hetang District Hetang district was established in August 1997 by the merger of three former East district offices and three former suburban townships of Zhuzhou City. The total area is 159 square kilometers. It borders Liuyang City, Lukou District, Lusong district and Shifeng District. It is located in the "North-South thoroughfare" with convenient transportation.
The terrain is high in the northeast, low in the southwest, high in the middle and low in the West. It has a subtropical monsoon climate with abundant heat and abundant rain. The main mineral resources are limestone.
In January 2013, the State Administration of Taxation of Hetang district was awarded the honorary title of "model learning party organization" by Zhuzhou municipal Party committee. In 2017, the Gross Regional Product (GDP) of Hetang district was 21.432 billion yuan, an increase of 8.1% year on year. On January 18, 2021, it won the honorary title of "2018-2020 national advanced unit of family planning quality service". On January 29, 2021, it was selected into the list of areas that have achieved remarkable results in the year of 2020 announced by the people's Government of Hunan Province (the "three noes" in the province's petition work have been created to meet the standard of counties and cities).
Historical evolution
Hetang was a village in the Northern Song Dynasty. There is a village in Liufang township of the town. There are stone mountains on three sides in the southeast and west of the village. Because the turbulent sea water is blocked by the mountains, the impact is large, and the terrain is low. It is like a "pond in the river", so it was originally named Hetang. Later, along with the planting of lotus in the near area, lotus blossoms in summer, lotus fragrance, so it is known as "lotus pond".
Hetang was designated as the fourth police district in 1913.
In 1931-1937, it was divided into the fourth district.
Before and after the founding of the people's Republic of China, Hetang belonged to the fourth district. After the founding of the people's Republic of China, Longxi township was renamed the open sea district.
On May 31, 1997, the State Council approved the establishment of Hetang district (guohan No. 40): it governs three streets of Yuetang, cigutang and Songjiaqiao in the former Eastern District, Mingzhao, hetangpu (excluding Xinmin, Tianxin and Shuangfeng villages), three townships of dieping and three villages of Chayuan, Dongliu and sandaoqiao in longtoupu town in the former suburb, and the District People's government is stationed on Xinhua East Road. According to the fifth census in 2000, there are 260835 permanent residents in Hetang District, including 59149 in Yuetang street, 76873 in cigutang street, 58375 in Songjiaqiao street, 11450 in hetangpu Township, 34916 in Mingzhao Township and 20072 in dieping township.
In 2001, Hetang District adjusted its administrative divisions. Dieping Township and Mingzhao Township were reduced from 19 administrative villages to 15 administrative villages, and hetangpu township was increased from 5 administrative villages to 13 administrative villages. The administrative areas of Yuetang and cigutang sub district offices were re divided. The new area is scheduled to start operation on October 1. On December 18, dieping township was abolished and Xianyu town was established. So far, Hetang district has jurisdiction over one town (Xianyu town), two townships (hetangpu Township and Mingzhao township), three offices (Yuetang street, cigutang street and Songjiaqiao Street), 43 administrative villages and 46 neighborhood committees. At the beginning of 1958, it was divided into three townships: Waihai, Hetang and ChaoLian.
In 1961, Hetang and ChaoLian were set up from Waihai commune.
At the end of 1977, ChaoLian was transferred from Hetang commune to Jiangmen suburb.
In 1984, Hetang commune was changed into Hetang District, and in 1986, the district was withdrawn to build a town.

In 2009, Zhuzhou Municipal People's government put Dafeng Village, Taipingqiao village, Xiangtang village and sandaoqiao village under the jurisdiction of Mingzhao township of Hetang district under the jurisdiction of Zhuzhou Yunlong demonstration zone. Hetang district is located in the west of Zhuzhou City, bordering Liuyang City, Zhuzhou County, Lusong district and Shifeng District.
