Anqiu City, a county-level city under the jurisdiction of Shandong Province and a county directly under the financial management of Shandong Province, is located in the middle of Shandong Peninsula. It is one of the first batch of coastal open counties and cities approved by the State Council. The city has a total area of 1760 square kilometers, 1.3 million mu of arable land, 3 streets, 9 towns, 870 administrative villages and a total population of 962000 (in 2019).
The history and culture of Anqiu City can be traced back to the state of Ju in the spring and Autumn period. In the eighth year of emperor Gaozu of the Han Dynasty (199 BC), Zhang Shuo, the general of ancient Quqiu land, was the Marquis of Anqiu. In the second year of Zhongyuan of emperor Jing of the Han Dynasty (148 BC), the county was officially established under the name of marquis. In October 2017, Anqiu City was named as the national garden city by the Ministry of housing and urban rural development, the first batch of national rural community construction demonstration units. In 2020, Anqiu City will be rated as one of the top 100 summer leisure counties in China.
Anqiu City is 110 kilometers away from Qingdao in the East, 200 kilometers away from Jinan in the west, and 25 kilometers away from Weifang in the north. National Highway 206, provincial road Xiaxiao, Yanggan road and other major trunk lines meet in Anqiu City. Jiaoji railway, Jiqing and Weilai expressways pass by, and Weiri Expressway runs through the city from north to south. In 2019, Anqiu's GDP will grow by 5.5% year-on-year, the per capita disposable income of urban and rural residents will increase by 6.5% and 8.5% respectively, and the general public budget revenue will reach 2.548 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 2%. After deducting tax reduction and other factors, Anqiu's per capita disposable income will increase by 12%.
Historical evolution
In the Neolithic period, human beings had lived and worked in Anqiu.
The Xia and Shang Dynasties were responsible for the search of the country.
The Western Zhou Dynasty belongs to Chunyu state. In the spring and Autumn period, it belonged to Qi, Ju and Ji. During the Warring States period, most of them belonged to Qi. A few of them belong to the state of Lu.
In the eighth year of emperor Gaozu of Han Dynasty (199 BC), general Zhang Shuo was granted the title of Marquis Yi of Anqiu (Marquis state). It is located in the north of moushan and the South Bank of Wenhe river. Since then, Anqiu has been named.
In the second year of Zhongyuan (148 BC), Emperor Jingdi of Han Dynasty set Anqiu County as Beihai County, which is located in the South highland of today's city. Anqiu County, Chunyu County, Chang'an County, Wucheng County, zhuxu County, Gumu county and Pingchang County belong to two prefectures (Qingzhou and Xuzhou) and three prefectures (Beihai County, Langya county and Gaomi County).
After the sixth year of Tang Wude (623), the above counties or parts of the territory were merged into Anqiu. In all previous dynasties, Anqiu was renamed Zhu Zhi, Mou Shan, Fu Tang, Jiao Xi, etc.
In the fourth year of Kaibao in Song Dynasty (971), Jiaoxi was changed to Anqiu, which is still in use today.
The Jin and Yuan dynasties belong to Mizhou, while the Ming and Qing dynasties belong to Qingzhou Prefecture.
In the early years of the Republic of China, it belonged to Jiaodong road and Laizhou road.
In 1928, the road was withdrawn from Shandong Province.
In March 1994, Anqiu County was renamed Anqiu City.
On September 28, 2009, Anqiu was a county directly under the jurisdiction of Shandong Province.

It was recorded in Wanli period of Ming Dynasty that Anqiu City was divided into five lanes, six townships and 174 communities.
During the reign of Emperor Kangxi of Qing Dynasty, there were 6 townships and 58 communities.
During the reign of Emperor Qianlong of the Qing Dynasty, there were six townships and 66 communities.
At the end of the reign of Emperor Guangxu of the Qing Dynasty, six townships were set up and divided into 54 communities, with a total of 1092 villages under its jurisdiction.
After the founding of the Republic of China, the county was divided into districts, towns and villages.
After liberation, Anqiu County was divided into 12 districts in 1950.
In 1953, after the merger of the three counties, there was one town (Jingzhi town) and 25 districts in the county.
In April 1956, there were 20 districts, 2 towns and 187 townships in the county.
In February 1958, the county was divided into 38 townships and 2 towns.
In September 1958, the establishment of villages and towns was abolished, and 23 people's communes integrating government and society were established in the county.
In April 1962, Jiage commune was set up in the northern villages of Chengguan commune, and songguantuan commune was set up in the northern villages of Linsu commune.
In August 1965, Liangtai commune was assigned to Zhucheng County, and Shibuzi commune of Zhucheng county was assigned to Anqiu County, with a total of 25 communes under its jurisdiction.
In April 1984, the government and society were separated, the commune system was abolished, and 22 townships and 10 towns were rebuilt.
On January 18, 1994, the State Council approved the abolition of Anqiu County and the establishment of Anqiu City at the county level as the administrative region of the former Anqiu County.
On July 28, 1992, Jiage Township, Zhaoge Township, cibu Township, Shibuzi Township and Liujiayao Township in Anqiu County were abolished, and Jiage Town, Zhaoge Town, cibu Town, Shibuzi town and Liujiayao town were established respectively.
On November 1, 1994, Danshan Township, Guangong Township and Linwu township of Anqiu City were abolished and Danshan Town, Guangong town and Linwu town were established. On November 24, 1994, Shidui township was abolished and Shidui town was established.
On December 29, 1995, songguantuan and baifenzi townships were abolished and songguantuan and baifenzi townships were established.
On January 3, 1996, Wangjiazhuang Township, Zheshan Township and Zhaohu Township were abolished and Wangjiazhuang Town, Zheshan town and Zhaohu town were established.
On July 9, 1997, Jinzhongzi township was abolished and Jinzhongzi town was established.

In 2000, Anqiu had jurisdiction over two streets and 25 towns.
In June 2000, the administrative regions of some of the 32 townships were adjusted. The scope of the adjustment is to abolish Anqiu town and Jiage Town, and set up two sub district offices, Xingan sub district and Jiage sub district, respectively, in the former administrative regions of Anqiu town and Jiage town.
As of December 31, 2002, Anqiu City has a total area of 2010 square kilometers. It has jurisdiction over 2 streets, 21 towns and 1440 administrative villages. At the end of the year, the total population of Anqiu City was 1096800, including 113300 non-agricultural population.
On June 10, 2003, hailquan town was set up in Anqiu City. On June 30, 2003, Nanliu town of Anqiu City was put under the jurisdiction of Fangzi District of Weifang City.
In 2003, Anqiu City had a total area of 1928 square kilometers. It has jurisdiction over 23 town and sub district offices and 1388 administrative villages (neighborhood committees). By the end of the year, Anqiu had a total population of 1.05 million, including 160000 non-agricultural people.

In 2007, after the study of Weifang Municipal government and the approval of the provincial government, it was agreed that Huangqibao town of Anqiu City should be put under the jurisdiction of Fangzi District. At the same time, Zhaoge town is also under the jurisdiction of Fangzi District.
In September 2007, Anqiu City adjusted the administrative divisions of towns and streets, merging the original 21 towns and two streets into 12 towns and two streets. The office of Xin'an sub district is located in the former government of Liujiayao town. Xin'an sub district is composed of 42 administrative villages such as the former jurisdiction of Liujiayao Town, Qiuxi village of Guanwang Town, 35 administrative villages such as Dongbei village of Jiage sub district, and 40 administrative villages such as Wangjiazhuang village of Zhaoge town. In July 2020, Linghe town of Anqiu City will be abolished, and Linghe Street will be set up in its original administrative region, and the sub district office will be stationed in the original Linghe town government.
