In the fourth year of jinmingchang (1193), Fuping County was set up in the northwest of Quyang County with the north town. Fuping County is a mountainous area, the terrain inclines from northwest to Southeast, the terrain is divided into deep mountain area and shallow mountain area; the whole territory belongs to the Daqing River system of Haihe River Basin, mainly including Dasha River and Yanzhi River; it is a warm temperate continental monsoon climate, with four distinct seasons. There are Baofu Expressway and Xifu Expressway passing through the territory. The main scenic spots are the Revolutionary Memorial Hall of Shanxi Chahar Hebei border area, the former site of the headquarters of Shanxi Chahar Hebei military area, Tianshengqiao national geological (forest) park, etc.

In 1659, Fuping County was abandoned due to the "high Ding rebellion", and the five communities in the East were merged into Quyang County, while the five communities in the West were merged into Xingtang County. In 1683, Fuping County was restored to Zhending Prefecture. In 1745, Fuping County was transferred to the present administration.
In 1913, it was transferred to fanyangdao, Zhili Province. In 1914, the name of Fanyang road was changed to Baoding road. In 1928, the road was abandoned, directly under Hebei Province. In 1937, after the outbreak of the Anti Japanese War, the Anti Japanese democratic government was established in Fuping County. On January 10, 1938, the government of Shanxi Chahar Hebei border region was established in Fuping. In 1942, Fuping County belonged to the Fourth District of Beiyue district.
