Yunmeng got its name from water. It was established in Yunmeng County in the 16th year of the Western Wei Dynasty (550). In the winter of 1949, the villages of wangjiazhaihe, Guanyin Township in the north of Yunmeng County were assigned to Ziwen Township in Anlu county. Gaodian and Yonghe 2 Bao in the West Bank of Fu River in the north of Yunmeng County belong to Anlu county. Zhangcun, hujiaxiangzi, Zhouzhai and Hebian, which are to the south of Chengou on the East Bank of Fuhe River, are divided into Yunmeng County from Anlu county.
In June 1950, caijiayuan area on the North Bank of Fuhe River in Hanchuan county and Taihe, diuxin, Zhongle, Sanhe, Hefeng, Houhu and gaochangyuan were included in Yunmeng County. Duzheng township (covering an area of 18 square kilometers) from huzitan to geputan on the West Bank of Fu River in Yunmeng county is included in Yingcheng county.
In 1954, xiaojiabeiyuan, pengjiatai, Xihu village, Donghu village, zhangjiatai and liujiatai in Changmeng Township were included in Xiaogan county.
In November 1955, xiaojiabeiyuan, pengjiatai, Xihu village, Donghu village, zhangjiatai and Liujia were designated back to Yunmeng County. Liujiage town in Hanchuan county is under Yunmeng County, and liujiao and Doukou villages in Xinfu township of Yunmeng County are under Xiaogan county.
