Historical evolution
From the excavation of two Neolithic sites, fushanyi and zhongzipo, it can be seen that human beings had been living and reproducing here as early as four or five thousand years ago in primitive clan society.
Changcheng village, 3 kilometers southeast of Zhangdian, was once the fiefdom of the Marquis Fubo in the Shang Dynasty. In the Warring States period (284 B.C.) in the 31st year of King Nan of Zhou Dynasty, King Yan Zhao was granted the title of "King Chang" because of his meritorious deeds in attacking Qi by Yue Yi.
In the 26th year of the first emperor of Qin Dynasty (221 BC), the first emperor of Qin destroyed the six states and formed a unified state. He abolished the Marquis state and established prefectures and counties. In the city of Chang state, Chang county was set up, belonging to Qi county.
The Western Han Dynasty inherited the system of Qin Dynasty, and Changguo County belonged to Qingzhou Qi county.

In the Jiajing period of Ming Dynasty (1522-1566), he once belonged to Gaoyuan County, Qingzhou Prefecture, Shandong Province. In 1624, Zhangdian became one of the eight towns (Zhangdian, Shiqiao, Suozhen, Xincheng, Gaolou, cuilou, xunzhao, tangzang) in Xincheng County of Jinan.
In April 1914, Xincheng County changed its name to Huantai County, and Zhangdian was a town under its jurisdiction. By 1935, Zhangdian town was the Second District of Huantai County.
On June 7, 1946, Zhangdian was liberated for the first time. In June, Zhangdian District was established, which is subordinate to the Zibo special zone of central Shandong Administration.
On March 1, 1947, Zhangdian was liberated for the second time, and the city of Zhangdian was rebuilt under the jurisdiction of Bohai administrative office.
On March 11, 1948, Zhangdian was liberated for the third time. In May, Zhangdian city was built again, which is subordinate to Zibo special zone in central and southern Shandong.
In July 1949, Zibo special zone in central and southern Shandong was merged with the Ministry of industry and mining of East China financial and economic office to establish Zibo special zone. Zhangdian city is under the jurisdiction of Zibo special industrial and mining zone.
In May 1950, Zibo industrial and mining special zone and Qinghe Special Zone were merged into Zibo special zone, Zhangdian city was abolished and Huantai County was merged. Zhangdian is nine districts of Huantai County.
On November 28, 1950, Zhangdian and Zhoucun merged into Zhangzhou City, and Zhangdian was the Second District of Zhangzhou city.

In April of the same year, Cui Jun people's commune was established from ten brigades and villages in Zichuan District, seven brigades and villages in Fujia commune, and 17 brigades and villages in total. In September 1964, Jiangxi people's commune was renamed sibaoshan people's commune. At the same time, with the approval of Zibo Municipal People's Committee, ten neighborhood committees were set up from Zhangdian commune to establish Zhangdian sub district office. The district has nine people's communes and one sub district office.
In May 1965, with the approval of the people's Committee of Zibo City, the five communes in Zichuan District, fengshui, Hutian, Jinling, Zhongbu and Dawu, were assigned to Zhangdian District. In August of the same year, the Nanding sub district office was established. The district has 14 people's communes and two sub district offices.
In December 1969, with the approval of Zibo Revolutionary Committee, Dawu and Jinling communes were assigned to Linzi District.
In December 1970, the two brigades of Guanzhuang and Liuhang, and the natural village of Dawu commune in Linzi District, were assigned to Hutian commune in Zhangdian District.
