Dongying District Dongying District is a municipal district of Dongying City, Shandong Province, located in the northeast of Shandong Province, is the center of Dongying City, the hinterland of the Yellow River Delta. Dongying City was established in 1982. In January 1984, Dongying District and Niuzhuang district were established. On June 10, 1987, the two districts merged into Dongying District.

On April 11, 1988, Xicheng sub district office of Dongying District was abolished and two sub district offices, Tai'an road and Haihe Road, were set up in its administrative area.

On October 14, 1992, Shikou township of Dongying District was abolished and Shikou town was established.

On January 12, 2019, 8 communities, 1 village transfer and 38 neighborhood committees in Dongcheng Street, 4 communities, 26 neighborhood committees and 1 administrative village in Shengli Street, 5 administrative villages in Liuhu town and guangligang neighborhood committee in Huanghe Road Street will be transferred to Dongying Economic and Technological Development Zone, which will be managed by Dongying Economic and Technological Development Zone. After adjustment, Dongying District will have 4 towns and 4 neighborhood offices.

Dongying District is located in the Yellow River Delta of Lubei plain. Geothermal is the second largest energy resource after oil and gas resources, with abundant reserves. From top to bottom, there are two better thermal reservoirs in the central urban area: the upper Tertiary Guantao formation thermal reservoir and the lower Tertiary Dongying Formation thermal reservoir. The total amount of hot water storage is 14.3 billion cubic meters, and the recoverable storage is 61408 cubic meters / day. Two geothermal wells are developed and utilized. The shell resources are mainly distributed in Niuzhuang town. The proved reserves are about 200000 tons and 160000 tons for exploitation.
