Shanggao County, under Yichun City, Jiangxi Province, is located in the northwest of Jiangxi Province, in the middle reaches of Jinjiang River, a tributary of Ganjiang River. It connects Gao'an city in the East, Wanzai County in the west, Yushui District, Fenyi County, Yichun City and Yuanzhou District of Xinyu City in the South, and Yifeng County in the north. Shanggao county was founded in the Eastern Han Dynasty and was named Shangcai County at the beginning. It was named Shanggao County in the Southern Tang Dynasty. Shanggao county is an important grain producing area in central Jiangxi Province, which is the "national commodity grain base county". In Shanggao, the photography art of farmers is prosperous, which is named as "the hometown of Chinese folk culture and art" by the Ministry of culture of the people's Republic of China.
In 2019, Shanggao county will achieve a GDP of 21.956 billion yuan, a total fiscal revenue of 3.29 billion yuan and a general public budget revenue of 1.771 billion yuan. Historical evolution
During the spring and Autumn period and the Warring States period, Shanggao belonged to Wu, Yue and Chu.
In the Qin Dynasty, Shanggao belonged to Jiujiang county.
In the sixth year of emperor Gaozu of Han Dynasty (201 BC), when Jiancheng county (including Gaoan, Shanggao, Yifeng, Wanzai and part of Zhangshu City) was established, it belonged to Yuzhang county. Xinmang (9-23 years) was transformed into Duoju County, belonging to Jiujiang county. In the first year of Jianwu in the Eastern Han Dynasty (25 years), it was still changed into Jiancheng County, belonging to Yuzhang county.
In zhongpingjian (184-189) of the Eastern Han Dynasty, Shangcai County was established in Pingju, a residential area of Shangcai people in Runan (now Henan Province).
In the first year of Taikang (280), Shangcai County was changed to Wangcai County, belonging to Yuzhang County, because Shangcai people missed their hometown.
Liang (502-557) of the southern and Northern Dynasties, Wangcai county belongs to Yuzhang kingdom.
In the ninth year of kaihuang (589), Wangcai county was merged into Jiancheng county and belonged to Hongzhou; in the early Daye period (605), Hongzhou was changed into Yuzhang county and still belonged to Yuzhang county.
In 622, Wangcai county was established and belonged to Jingzhou; in 624, Wangcai County belonged to Mizhou and changed to Junzhou in the same year; in 625, Wangcai county was merged into Gao'an county and belonged to Hongzhou; from 881 to 884, Zhongdu, the governor of Zhennan, established Shanggao town. So Shanggao got its name.
Shanggao town was abandoned in Shengyuan middle of the Southern Tang Dynasty (937-942) and changed into Shanggao town. In 952, Shanggao town was upgraded to county, which was named Shanggao county and belonged to Junzhou.
In the first year of Baoqing in the Southern Song Dynasty (1225), Shanggao County belonged to Ruizhou.
In 1277, Ruizhou was upgraded to Ruizhou Road, and Shanggao County belonged to Ruizhou road. In the first year of Yuanzhen (1295), Xinchang County was promoted to be a prefecture, and Shanggao County belonged to Xinchang Prefecture.
In 1369, Ruizhou road was changed to Ruizhou capital, and Shanggao County belonged to Ruizhou capital.
In the Qing Dynasty, the system of Ming Dynasty was followed and the subordination remained unchanged.
In the third year of the Republic of China (1914), Jiangxi Province was divided into four districts, Shanggao County belonged to Luling road; in the 15th year of the Republic of China (1926), the abandoned Luling Road, Shanggao directly belonged to Jiangxi Province; in the 21st year of the Republic of China (1932), Jiangxi Province had an administrative region, Shanggao was subordinate to the eighth administrative region; in the 24th year of the Republic of China (1935), Shanggao was subordinate to the second administrative region.
