Yuanzhou District, subordinate to Yichun City, Jiangxi Province, is located in the west of Jiangxi Province. It is adjacent to the Steel City Xinyu in the East, the ancient city Ji'an in the south, the coal capital Pingxiang in the west, and the hinterland of Hunan in the northwest. Covering an area of 2532.36 square kilometers, the district has jurisdiction over 10 streets, 19 towns and 3 townships. By the end of 2019, the permanent resident population of Yuanzhou District will be 1.0813 million.
Yuanzhou district is the seat of Yichun Municipal Party committee and government, with convenient transportation. Shanghai Kunming railway, Shanghai Kunming high-speed railway, Shanghai Rui Expressway and national highway 320 run through the whole district, 200 km to Nanchang Changbei International Airport and 150 km to Changsha Huanghua International Airport. It has a mid subtropical monsoon climate and is known as "beautiful mountains and waters, fertile soil and sweet spring, with spring like atmosphere and salty seasons".

In the sixth year of emperor Gaozu of Han Dynasty (201 BC), Guanying built a city here and set up Yichun County, which is under the jurisdiction of Yuanhe River Basin and belongs to Yuzhang county. In the sixth year of Yuanguang (129 BC), Yichun county was established as the Marquis state of Yichun. In the fifth year of the Ding reign of the Han Dynasty (112BC), the Marquis state of Yichun was abolished and Yichun county was established again, still belonging to Yuzhang county. Wang Mang replaced Han Dynasty and changed Yichun county to xiuxiao County, which belongs to Jiujiang county.
In the first year of Jianwu (25th year) of the Eastern Han Dynasty, Xiao was rebuilt as Yichun, which belonged to Yuzhang county. In 185, Hanping county was set up in the east of Yichun county (now the west of Zhangshu City).
In 267, Pingxiang county was located in the west of Yichun County, and Xinyu county was located in the east of Zhongshan. Yichun, Pingxiang and Xinyu all belong to Ancheng county.
In the first year of Taikang (280), Yichun county was changed into Yiyang County, still belonging to Ancheng county.
In 591, Wuping County was abolished and Yuanzhou was established in Yiyang County. Kaihuang eighteen years, Yiyang to Yichun. In the same year, Xinyu county was established in the east of Yichun county. In 1277, Yichun county was subordinate to Yuanzhou Prefecture of Hunan Province; in 1282, Yuanzhou Prefecture was upgraded to Yuanzhou Road, which was subordinate to Jiangxi Province, and Yichun county was still governed; in 1364, Zhu Yuanzhang changed Yuanzhou road to Yuanzhou Prefecture, and Yichun county was still governed.
In 1369, Yichun county was under the jurisdiction of Yuanzhou Prefecture, Jiangxi Province; in the Qing Dynasty, Yichun county was under the jurisdiction of Yuanzhou Prefecture, Jiangxi Province.
In 1914, Yuanzhou Prefecture was abolished, and Yichun County belonged to Luling road; in 1926, Yichun County belonged to the province; in 1931, Yichun County belonged to the second administrative supervision district; in 1932, Yichun County belonged to the eighth administrative region; in 1935, Yichun County belonged to the second administrative region.
On July 20, 1949, Yichun County People's government was established, which is subordinate to Yuanzhou District of Jiangxi Provincial People's government, and Yuanzhou district is located in Yichun county.
In September 1952, Yuanzhou district was merged into Nanchang District, and Yichun county was subordinate to Nanchang Commissioner's office.
On December 20, 1958, Nanchang Commissioner's office was moved to Yichun county. On New Year's day, 1959, it was renamed Yichun Commissioner's office, which Yichun county was subordinate to.
On April 18, 1963, the town of Yichun county was upgraded to a county-level Town, which belongs to Yichun Commissioner's office as well as Yichun county.
In January 1967, Yichun town was reduced to a district level town under Yichun county.
On October 8, 1979, with the approval of the State Council, Yichun city was set up in part of Yichun County, which is under the leadership of Yichun regional administrative office.
On March 29, 1985, with the approval of the State Council, Yichun county was abolished and all the towns under its jurisdiction were included in Yichun city.
In August 2000, the State Council abolished the Yichun district administrative office and established Yichun City (prefecture level). The former county-level Yichun city was changed into Yuanzhou district.

Yuanzhou district is located in the southwest of Yichun City, in the upper reaches of Yuanhe River, a tributary of Ganjiang River. The mountains include middle and low mountains, which are mainly distributed in the area of Mingyue Mountain bordering Anfu in the south. The main peak of Taiping mountain is 1735.6 meters above sea level, which is the highest peak in the territory. The main peak of Fengding mountain is 959.9 meters above sea level. The mountainous area is about 510 square kilometers, accounting for 20% of the total area. It is the main producing area of timber forest and moso bamboo.
Hills include high hills and low hills. The high hills are mainly distributed in Shuijiang, Tiantai, Cihua, Tiantai Mountain, Hongtang, nanmu, Wentang and nanmiao, while the low hills are mainly distributed in the middle of the region. The hilly area is about 1429 square kilometers, accounting for 56.04% of the total area. High hills accounted for 20.35%, low hills accounted for 35.69%.
