Jinyang county is located in the southwest of Sichuan Province. It faces Yongshan, Ludian and Qiaojia counties of Zhaotong City in Yunnan Province on the East and south sides of Jinsha River. It borders Zhaojue and Leibo in the north, Butuo in the West and Xixi River in the West. The total area of Jinyang county is 1587 square kilometers.
Jinyang County governs 4 towns and 30 townships. At the end of 2016, the total population was 205880, up 0.9% from 204108 in the previous year. In 2016, the GDP reached 2893.06 million yuan.

Historical evolution
Before the Western Han Dynasty, it was qiongbu.
In the sixth year of Yuanding, Emperor Wu of the Western Han Dynasty (111 BC), the Han Dynasty destroyed the Qiong tribe and set up Yueyi County in the Qiong tribe, which belongs to Beishui county.

Xuantong two years (1910) set up Zhaojue County, under Zhaojue County.
In November 1950, the public security committee of jiandeng factory area was subordinate to Zhaojue County.
In October 1951, the people's united government of lamp factory in Zhaojue County was established.

In October 1952, Liangshan Yi Autonomous Region (prefecture level) of Xikang province was established, belonging to Liangshan Yi Autonomous Region.
In 1955, Liangshan Yi Autonomous Region was changed into Liangshan Yi Autonomous Prefecture, belonging to Liangshan Yi Autonomous Prefecture. In the same year, Xikang province was abolished, and Jinyang county was changed into Sichuan Province along with Liangshan Prefecture.
In November 2020, the people's Government of Sichuan Province decided to withdraw Jinyang county from poverty-stricken counties.

(1) Nanwa Township, Tugou Township, Siwo Township and yimohe Township were abolished and nanwa town was established. The administrative areas of nanwa town are the former nanwa Township, the former Tugou Township, the former nibolo village and zhalangu village of yuansiwo Township, and the former Guti village and Jifu village of yimohe township.
