Xiuning County, subordinate to Huangshan City, Anhui Province, is located in the southernmost part of Anhui Province. It is an important transportation hub of Anhui, Zhejiang and Jiangxi provinces. The total area is 2135 square kilometers, with 10 towns, 11 townships and 153 administrative villages. The registered residence population is 268 thousand and 300 (2018).
Xiuning County was founded in 208, the 13th year of Jian'an in the Eastern Han Dynasty. From 1217, the 10th year of Jiading in Song Dynasty, to 1880, the 6th year of Guangxu in Qing Dynasty, Xiuning County was the first number one county in China. There are Qiyun mountain, one of the four famous religious mountains in China, and Wan'an compass, which won the gold medal of 1915 Panama International Exposition.

History of construction
From the 11th to the 8th century, there were settled residents in Xiuning County and formed a nation state. During the spring and Autumn period and the Warring States period (from the 8th to the 3rd century), Xiuning was the territory of Wu, Yue and Chu. In the Qin and Han Dynasties, it was located in Xixiang of she county. It belonged to Kuaiji county and Zhangjun County in the Qin Dynasty, and Danyang County in the Han Dynasty. In 208, Xixiang of Shexian county was divided into Xiuyang County, which ruled the south of Sheshan. In the first year of Wu Yong'an (258), it was renamed Haiyang county. Wansui mountain in Wan'an county was under the jurisdiction of Xindu county. In 280, Xindu county was changed into Xin'an County and Haiyang County into Haining county. Since then, the name of the county has not changed after the Tang, song, yuan, Ming, Qing, Republic of China and the founding of new China. The county government was established in nanhaiyang town of Songluo mountain in the ninth year of Tianbao (750). Most of the territory has not changed, and the marginal areas of the bureau have been adjusted.
After the founding of new China, Xiuning County was subordinate to Huizhou District, Wuhu district and Huizhou area. Since November 1987, it has been subordinate to Huangshan City.

Xiuning County is located in the southernmost part of Anhui Province, between 117 ° 39 ′ - 118 ° 26 ′ E and 29 ° 24 ′ - 30 ° 02 ′ n. It is 71 km long from north to South and 79 km long from east to west, with a total area of 2135 square kilometers. The landform of Xiuning County is mainly mountainous and hilly, accounting for 76.70% of the total area of the county. The whole terrain is high in the north and south, low in the middle, with large fluctuation and obvious vertical height difference. The highest altitude is 1629.8 meters in Liugujian, and the lowest is 130 meters in Meilin teahouse, with a relative elevation difference of 1500 meters. Zhongshan is mainly distributed in the South and west of the county, forming the boundary mountains of Anhui, Zhejiang and Jiangxi provinces. Except for the limited part in the west end, the mountain is distributed in NE-SW direction. The composition of the mountain is hypabyssal metamorphic rock and granite, with an altitude of about 1000 meters. The highest peak is Liugujian, with an altitude of 1629.8 meters. In the northern part of the county, there are also scattered middle mountains, whose altitude has dropped to about 800 meters. For example, yingwujian is 842 meters above sea level, which is composed of epimetamorphic rocks and limestone. Zhongshan Shanxiu is divided into deep valleys. The cutting depth of the terrain is 400-1040m. The slope of the hillside is about 42 ° and it is steep in some parts. Most of the peaks are sharp and the valley bottom is V-shaped. Especially in the south of Zhongshan, the ground is broken and easy to cause serious soil erosion.
The low mountains are mainly distributed in the central and northern part of the county and the edge of the Intermountain basin within the middle mountain. The mountains are mostly composed of epimetamorphic rocks, red sandstone, conglomerate and limestone. Most of them are about 500 meters above sea level, and a few of them can reach more than 700 meters. For example, Jinlong mountain is 795 meters above sea level, Chashan mountain is 761 meters above sea level, and Yinggong mountain is 721 meters above sea level. The Low Mountains extend intermittently from northeast to southwest, separated by Intermountain basins and wide valleys. Due to the influence of man-made felling and deforestation, soil erosion is more serious.
High hills are mainly distributed in the eastern part of the county, along the banks of Liushui and Hengjiang, and on the edge of Intermountain basins. The altitude is below 400 meters. It is mainly composed of epimetamorphic rock, red sandstone and conglomerate. The vein is still clear, but the extension direction varies with the gully direction. Due to long-term water cutting and lateral erosion, many valleys developed on the hill slope.

In spring, the weather is changeable; in summer, the temperature is high, the humidity is high, and the precipitation is concentrated; in autumn, the temperature drops quickly, often "early in autumn", and the daily temperature range is large; in winter, it is cold but not cold, and there is not much rain and snow.
