Suqian Suqian, also known as Shuicheng, is a prefecture level city in Jiangsu Province. Suqian is located in the north of the Yangtze River Delta and the north of Jiangsu Province. It is a regional comprehensive transportation hub in the north of the Yangtze River Delta. It is located in the center of Xuzhou, Lianyungang and Huai'an. It is known as "the pulse of Chinese civilization, the root of Jiangsu civilization, the source of Huaihe civilization and the soul of Chu Han culture". Suqian is one of the birthplaces of wine culture, and the title of Chinese baijiu. The Yanghe River and Shuang Gou two famous wines are produced here. Suqian is a typical water town in Northern Jiangsu Province, with two freshwater lakes, Luoma Lake and Hongze Lake, and many rivers, such as the Grand Canal, the ancient Yellow River and Huaishu new river. Emperor Qianlong visited the south of the Yangtze River six times and five times, praising Suqian as "the first river in spring".

History of construction
In the spring and Autumn period, it was the state of Zhongwu, and the county of Xiaxiang was established in Qin Dynasty.
In 113 B.C., the capital of Sishui state in the Western Han Dynasty was established and passed on to six kings in Five Dynasties for 132 years.
After the Eastern Han Dynasty, the Western Jin Dynasty, to the first year of emperor an Yixi in the Eastern Jin Dynasty (405), Xiaxiang county was changed to Suyu County.
Suyu County was still in the southern and Northern Dynasties and Sui Dynasty.
In 621, xiapi county was changed to Sizhou, and Suyu was still the capital.
In the 23rd year of Kaiyuan (735) of Tang Dynasty, Suyu County was swept away by Yimeng Mountains and waters, so Sizhou was transferred to linhuai County, and Suyu County was transferred to the former site of xiaxiangcheng.
In the first year of Tang BAOYING (762), Suyu County was changed to Suqian county to avoid the taboo of Li Yu.
The Song Dynasty belonged to the Huaiyin army of Hedong Road, Pizhou County, and later to the Huaiyang army of Jingdong road.
During the yuan, Ming and Qing Dynasties, Suqian County belonged to Huai'an Prefecture.
In the early Qing Dynasty, it was a part of Jiangnan province.
In 1667, it was divided into Jiangsu Province and Anhui Province. Suqian belonged to Huai'an Prefecture of Jiangsu Province.
In the middle and late Qing Dynasty, Suqian was transferred to Xuzhou.
After the revolution of 1911, the Republic of China was founded and the system of state capital was abolished. Suqian was first directly under the Jiangsu provincial government, and then under the administrative supervision area of Huaiyin.
In the course of the people's revolutionary struggle, SISU county and Suqian county were established under the leadership of the six divisions of Guihua Central Military Region, belonging to Huaihai district.
From the Anti Japanese War to the liberation war, Suyu County was to the east of the canal, SISU county was to the west of the canal, and Subei County was to the north of Xiaodian town to Xin'an town of Xinyi City.
In September 1945, Suqian was established, belonging to SISU county.
In June 1946, Suqian county (including Yundong and Yunxi) and the area south of Xinyi River in Subei County became Suqian County, belonging to Huaiyin special area.
In 1970, it belonged to Huaiyin area.
In 1983, it belonged to Huaiyin City.
In December 1987, Suqian county was abolished and Suqian City at county level was established.
In July 1996, Suqian City at the county level was abolished and Suqian City at the prefecture level was established. The former Suqian City at the county level and the administrative regions of Siyang County, Shuyang County and Sihong County were the administrative regions of Suqian City at the prefecture level.
In March 2004, with the approval of the State Council, Suyu County was abolished and Suyu District was established.

From 1996 to 2000, there were 51 townships in succession, and towns were set up instead of townships.
In May 2000, with the approval of the provincial government, 15 townships and 6 farms were merged, and 4 new sub district offices were set up. The total number of townships and towns was reduced from 126 to 111.
In June 2001, combined with the rural tax reform, the village (neighborhood) committees with less than 2500 people in Suqian were merged. The total number of village (neighborhood) committees was removed and merged from 2299 to 1418, with a merger rate of 38%.
In March 2004, Yanghe Town, Zhenglou Town, Zhongyang Town, Cangji Town, tuyuan town of Siyang County and Chenji town of Sihong County were under the jurisdiction of Sucheng District of Suqian City.
In July 2005, Shizi Town, Qixiong town and Zhangji town of Shuyang County were merged into Shucheng town; Chengxiang town and Laian town of Siyang County were merged into Zhongxing Town, and Daxing neighborhood committee of Linhe town was merged into Zhongxing town; loulou Township and Chonggang township of Sihong County were merged into Qingyang Town, and wulijiang farm was merged into Qingyang Town.
In June 2013, Caiji town and wangguanji town of Suyu District were under the jurisdiction of Sucheng District of Suqian City.
In July 2013, Shucheng town of Shuyang County was abolished and Shucheng street, Nanhu street, Mengxi street, Shizi street, Zhangji street and Qixiong street were established.
In March 2014, Shunhe town of Suyu District was abolished and Shunhe street, Xiaxiang street and Yuxin street were established.
In December 2017, shuangzhuang town in Sucheng district was abolished and shuangzhuang street and zhikou street were established.
