Jingdezhen, also known as "porcelain capital", is a prefecture level city in Jiangxi Province. It is located in the northeast of Jiangxi Province, bordering Anhui Province in the northwest, Wannian County in the south, Poyang County in the west, Qimen County in Anhui Province in the northeast and Wuyuan County in the southeast. From 1930 to 1934, the Communist Party of China established the Soviet regime and organization in Jingdezhen. In 1935, the office of the inspector general of the fifth administrative region of Jiangxi Province moved from Poyang County to Jingdezhen. Jingdezhen became the political, economic, cultural and military center of Northeast Jiangxi. After the outbreak of the Anti Japanese War (Japan called the second Sino Japanese War), the Kuomintang and the Communist Party re cooperated. In 1938, the New Fourth Army Office of the Communist Party of China was set up in Jingdezhen, and a left behind office was set up in Yaoli in the northern mountainous area.

On April 29, 1949, Jingdezhen and Fuliang County were liberated, and Jingdezhen and Fuliang County were divided into two cities. On May 4, Jingdezhen Municipal Committee of the Communist Party of China and Jingdezhen Municipal People's government were established, which successively belonged to the Northeast Jiangxi administrative office, Shangrao District, Leping district and Fuliang district.

In June 1953, with the approval of the State Council of the people's Republic of China, Jingdezhen was a city under the jurisdiction of Jiangxi Province.

In 1960, the organizational system of Fuliang County was abolished, and its administrative region was included in the city.

In 1983, the State Council of the people's Republic of China approved the division of Leping County into the jurisdiction of Jingdezhen City, and the two administrative regions of Yushan and Hetang in Poyang County into the jurisdiction of Jingdezhen city.

In 1985, Leping county and four districts of Zhushan, Changjiang, Ehu and Jiaotan were under the jurisdiction of the city.

In 1988, with the approval of the State Council, the organizational system of Fuliang County was restored and the Ehu and Jiaotan districts were abolished. In September 1992, Leping county was replaced by a county-level city.

In 2009, Jingdezhen governs Leping City, Fuliang County, Zhushan district and Changjiang district.
