Jiamusi Jiamusi city is a prefecture level city in Heilongjiang Province and a central city in the northeast of Heilongjiang Province approved by the State Council. The city has jurisdiction over four municipal districts, three county-level cities and three counties, with a total area of 32460 square kilometers and a total population of 2333000 in 2020.
Jiamusi city is located in the northeast of China, the northeast of Heilongjiang Province, and the hinterland of the three river plain formed by the confluence of Songhua River, Heilongjiang River and Wusuli River on the northeast border of the motherland. It is separated by Heilongjiang River in the north and Wusuli River in the East, facing Khabarovsk City and Jewish Autonomous Prefecture of Russia respectively.
Jiamusi is a prefecture level administrative region at the easternmost end of China's land. It is the first place in China to welcome the rising of the sun. It is known as "happy Jiamusi, the new Tianfu in the East pole". The place name comes from the Manchu "jiamukesi Kashan", which means "zhanguantun". Jiamusi is located in the border of China, adjacent to the capitals of Khabarovsk and birobizhan in the Far East of Russia, and one of the frontier cities open to Russia. It has a natural wetland area of more than 600000 hectares, with two national and five provincial wetland nature reserves, of which Sanjiang wetland has been listed in the world wetland protection list.
In 2019, the GDP of Jiamusi city will reach 76.29 billion yuan, an increase of 3.6% over the previous year in terms of comparable prices. Among them, the added value of the primary industry will reach 35.82 billion yuan, an increase of 1.5% over the previous year; the added value of the secondary industry will reach 8.93 billion yuan, an increase of 0.5% over the previous year; and the added value of the tertiary industry will reach 31.54 billion yuan, an increase of 6.9% over the previous year. The proportion of the three industries is 47:11.7:41.3.
Jiamusi, in the late period of Kangxi reign of Qing Dynasty, wrote "jiamukesi Geshan", and later translated "Jiamusi", "Jiamusi" and "Jiamusi". The word "Jiamusi" in Manchu means "Yi Cheng" or "Zhan Guan Tun".

On June 27, 1937, the puppet Manchu government decided to adjust the administrative divisions and set up Jiamusi city. After the victory of the Anti Japanese war in 1945, the administrative office of Sanjiang region was established in Jiamusi in late October of the same year. On November 21, Sanjiang region was abolished and Hejiang province was set up. The provincial government was stationed in Jiamusi.
In May 1949, Hejiang province was abolished and merged into Songjiang Province, which was directly under the central government.
In August 1954, after the merger of the two provinces, Heilongjiang Province was directly under the central government.
In March 1956, the people's Committee of Huachuan County was moved from Jiamusi to Yingzhen, Hunan Province.
In August 1958, Jiamusi city was entrusted to Hejiang district.

In 1946, some rural villages in the suburbs were put under the jurisdiction of Huachuan County.
In January 1952, the five villages of Gengjia, model, Shuanghe, Sifeng and Zhongxing in Huachuan County were put under the jurisdiction of Jiamusi city. In the same year, the city was divided into four districts.
In March 1956, six villages in Huachuan County, including Taipingshan, Sanjiazi, Xinhua, Kaoshan, mengguli and Xinmin, were put under the jurisdiction of Jiamusi city.

In January 1958, the municipal districts were restored and divided into four municipal districts, namely Chang'an, Sanhe, Heping and suburbs.
In March 1959, Yuelai, Xincheng and Xinghuo communes in Huachuan County were put under the jurisdiction of Jiamusi city.
In January 1961, Jiadong district was added. In March of the same year, the suburbs were abolished.
In August 1964, in order to narrow the suburbs of the city, 11 communes in the suburbs, namely Dalai, Yong'an, xigemu, Yuelai, Jianguo, Xinghuo, Lala street, Sujiadian, Zhongfu, Lishu and Xincheng, were put under the jurisdiction of Huachuan County, while the three communes in the west, namely Dalai, Yong'an and sigmu, were still managed by Jiamusi city.
In 1968, Chang'an, Sanhe, Heping and Jiadong districts were renamed Xiangyang, Yonghong, Qianjin and Dongfeng districts respectively, and three communes of Dalai, Yong'an and sigmu were transferred to Huachuan County.
In 1972, the suburbs were restored and five districts were under the jurisdiction of the city.

On February 24, 1987, with the approval of the State Council (Guo Han [1987] No. 39), Tongjiang County was abolished and Tongjiang City (county level) was established, with the former administrative region of Tongjiang County as the administrative region of Tongjiang City. On February 2, 1991, with the approval of the State Council (Guo Han [1991] No. 4), Yilan County of Jiamusi city was put under the leadership of Harbin city. Baoqing county and Youyi County of Jiamusi City were put under the leadership of Shuangyashan City.
On July 5, 1993, with the approval of the State Council and the approval of the Ministry of Civil Affairs (Min Xing PI [1993] No. 137), Raohe County of Jiamusi city was put under the jurisdiction of Shuangyashan City.
On July 27, 2006, with the approval of the State Council (Guo Han [2006] No. 63), Yonghong District of Jiamusi city was cancelled and its administrative region was put under the jurisdiction of Jiamusi suburb.
In 2011, with the approval of the provincial Party committee and the provincial government, Fuyuan County was directly managed by Heilongjiang Province.
On January 15, 2016, with the approval of the State Council, the Ministry of Civil Affairs (min Han [2016] No. 14) approved the revocation of Fuyuan County and the establishment of county-level Fuyuan City, with the former administrative region of Fuyuan County as the administrative region of Fuyuan city.
On November 26, 2017, Fuyuan city was no longer directly managed by Heilongjiang Province.
